A recent thread about rear-door support (here) has made me wonder if anyone else has thought about using one or a pair of these to hold up the hood. It has always seemed to me a curious choice to have that be a manual function on the RDX, but lately my hood prop rod has become somewhat 'detached', so that while it still works, it is quite difficult to properly lay it back down in order to close the hood.
I would be grateful to know if anyone has essayed this.

You can easily compare & contrast the differences yourself, for potential fitment, by analyzing the OEM parts diagrams from an online vendor.
The 2G RDX model year ranges from 2013-2018, with that said...
*Any 'number' designation for each component below that does not have a square 'dotted line' box surrounding it indicates the part is either 'discontinued' or does not relate to the specific 'trim level' selected.
Your 2014 RDX Tech FWD trim level has the (red) #8; 'Hood opener stay' associated with the (purple) #1; 'Hood' currently listed as 'discontinued' below.
The hood opener damper assemblies (yellow) #31 & 32 are not designated for your trim level; therefore, they have no square 'dotted line' box surrounding them.
The first 2G RDX year (that I can reasonably determine) offering the hood opener damper assemblies (green) #31 & 32, with the designated #1 Hood, is 2016.
As a result you have three considerations?
1) Purchase an appropriate trim level 2016-18 RDX Hood & damper assemblies to test fitment on your 2014 Tech FWD?
2) Open your 2014 RDX hood and determine if the (right / left; upper / lower) damper 'bolt bosses' are present (incorporated during 2014 manufacturing)?
a. If space permits & they are present, one may be able to 'drill / tap' said bolt bosses to accommodate the two upper / lower hood damper fasteners?
3) Purchase the components to alleviate / correct the '...somewhat 'detached' condition of your current #8; 'Hood opener stay'.
Thanks, Zeta! I will look under the hood sometime soon, to see if the 'bolt bosses' are present (I am somewhat doubful, but it's worth looking)! Otherwise, I may try to find a more permanent solution to my existing implementation.

I will need to replace the hood dampers on my wife's 2016 RDX Advance as they are starting to fail. I like using OEM parts, but $52 for each side seems somewhat steep for what they are. I searched the PNs and found these - https://www.liftsupportsdepot.com/li..._O9wetvVHSR6MU
Might give them a try at < a third of the cost..
I drilled a hole in the cowl panel and inserted a ball, but when closing the hood, the gas strut hits the plastic panel, so it's not as simple as it seems. It didn't work with the 2013, We need a new cowl panel from 2016 and side covers. That already comes out to $350, not $32. I don't want to ruin or cut up the original cowl panel and side covers.
