Question Cheapest Source for OEM Honda/Acura Timing Belt Tensioner?

Have a 2016 RDX going in for timing belt service soon. They told me that while they're in there, IF it needs a new timing belt tensioner it would be an extra $250 for the part, but I could bring my own part in as well, as long as its OEM Honda/Acura. Anyone have a good source for getting these as inexpensively as possible? Thanks!

Question Timing Belt Service- "While you're in there" items to replace?

Going to be bringing my 2016 RDX in for timing belt replacement soon. They will be replacing the timing belt and water pump as part of the "basic" timing belt service.

Besides that and possibly the timing belt tensioner, are there any other parts that would be much easier/cheaper to replace while everything is already disassembled? Eg. Serpentine/accessory drive belt, any pulleys, etc.

Thanks!

How long are your planning to keep the RDX after the timing belt service? You are good for another 9-10 years or +210,000 miles for the timing belt; but, will the original the timing belt tensioner or serpentine belt/tensioner last that long?

is it a regular indie? i would say get the aisin timing kit from rockauto and that will replace all you need.

it includes a bunch of the extra stuff and its just better to get that all changed for peace of mind

Online Acura/Honda OEM parts sellers like curryacuraparts.com, oemacuraparts.com, etc. sell the genuine Honda/Acura OEM tensioner for around $200+/-, but you pay shipping that quickly eats into that $50 savings unless you bundle it with other parts at same time. I order whatever OEM filters, wiper blades, fluids (trans, gear, diff), etc, I'll need soon at the same time to offset shipping.

Not exactly a "while you're in there" item, but spark plugs might be a suggested replacement at the same time if you haven't done so already.

It's actually a Honda dealership (even though I strongly prefer indie mechanics) because they offer a $749 timing belt + pump replacement special, which is lower than pretty much what any other place charges. And then they just charge the price of the part for other "while you're in there" items.

BUT they will only install OEM Honda/Acura parts, so unfortunately the Aisin parts/kit are not an option here.

ahh fair enought, i could be mistaken but i had a bad experience with honda regarding this. as far as i know $750 is basically a new belt, a new pump, and the labor for both. which is decent but then you may as well change the idler, tensioner pulley, pulley, serp belt and then all of that is probably another $500. so thats how they end up getting you for $1200 + when it all could have been done for like $700 from a good indie.

Buy the Aisin kit that has all the bells and whistles , Not mentioned, add the thermostat in with the job. That way when the replace the water pump , with the stat being replaced all the coolant is being flushed.
