Keyfob "Key"

What exactly is the key within the keyfob used for? It is the top of the line model.

I would think I can open a door should the keyfob no longer work. I can't see a door slot for a key. Also checked the owner's manual. And I know I am wrong.

I've been to that page earlier today. I know where my key is stored within the keyfob.

The question was, where is the key hole in the door to use the key? The car is in storage and if the vehicle battery is dead, the doors won't open. The last time I checked last fall, there was no slot for the key in the door handle, just a rubber square that I would press to lock the door.

I do not know if all models are the same. This is the Advanced aka Elite model.

Right side of the DRIVER door handle.

No key access on the PASSENGER side, only the DRIVER side.

I wanted to disconnect the battery before I store my RDX for the winter before I head for warmer climates because the last year, i needed a boost after 3 months of storage with no plug-in available for a battery maintainer.

So I thought, why not just disconnect the battery this winter. And since I always use the key fob to unlock and lock my doors, I remembered the "spare key" stored in the fob. And when I checked last fall, I must have just looked at the passenger door which of course does not have a key slot and being on the other side of the planet, I was as to what the key must be for.

Sure enough, for some strange reason, this year my RDX started on the original 8 year old battery after being in storage for 3 months.

Thanks, I just checked the driver's door this morning as I picked up my RDX from storage. Sure enough...found that key slot. Duhhh on my part.
