Key Fob Problem?

Periodically car does not start. No lights go on when start button initially pushed. Got out of car, locked car with Fob, unlocked car with Fob, got in and placed Fob near start button and car started.

I replaced Fob battery and the issue continued to happen periodically. In each case, the car ultimately started going through the above sequence.

Got second Fob which is basically new, put new battery in it and for now, car started right away and things seem fine. Time will tell.

Anyone else had this issue and how did you address it? Thank you,

I've never had a fob die on me for any reason other than a battery. I do know that there are lots of counterfeit batteries out there, so be sure, as best you can, that you get a good battery from a reliable source and with a good manufacturer.

How is your main car battery? Any worries about its strength?

Ditto on these two points.

The one time I had an issue with the fob, I didn't close the fob exactly right when I installed the battery. I re-opened the fob and made sure everything lined and it worked. Make sure the light is illuminated when you push the button. If it doesn't, make sure everything is lined up.

And don't forget to have the positive (+) side lined up correctly too.

Thanks for all of your replies. I buy brand name fob batteries from a reputable source as I use the batteries for several household applications and never had an issue.

Car battery is 42 months old and it's an Acura battery, not the best but should not fail this soon but need to have it load tested. Nice cold weather snap so most places will probably be sold out batteries including the 24F my RDX uses.

Concern now is there might be a problem with the Body Control Module and I understand I can reset it by disconnecting the battery then touching the battery cables together to drain the capacitors and any gremlins that might be in the BCM. Comments welcome. Thanks again.

Batteries can live as short as 2-3 years, so definitely get it tested since it's approaching 4 years old.
