highway vibration at 75-80 mph
highway vibration at 75-80 mph
I have been having a vibration in my 2013 FWD RDX (w/ 8000 miles) at 80 mph for a few months now. I rarely drive on highways but when I do it gets really annoying after more than 30 minutes; more than 2 hours becomes a punishment. It is something subtle that I feel in my foot and in the steering wheel at 75-80 mph (most of the time the passengers don’t feel a thing). If I bring the car to 90-100 mph (don’t tell the cops) the vibration almost disappears.
Something else, I notice that If I press the gas pedal I feel it less but when the power train is stopping the car (slightly depressing the gas pedal) the subtle vibration is more accentuated.
I have taken it to the dealer twice (actually 2 different dealers) in a period of 7-8 months due to this vibration and according to the service reports on both occasions they have found the wheels off balance. Last time they had the RDX for 2 days and found a couple of things (supposedly the wheels off balanced plus they also replaced some brake pads according to a TSB) and the RDX drove like a dream for a couple of weeks and when I thought that I could be finally happy the stupid highway vibration started again. Last night I was feeling it as if there was some object attached to a rear wheel that was making this high frequency noise every time it touched the pavement (most likely it is me trying to find an explanation to what’s going on).
I love my RDX but between the VCM crap and now this vibration I am kinda worried. I have been able to come to terms with the VCM rumble noise as a price we have to pay to get slightly better mileage but in all honesty if I could choose I would be willing to lose my 2 mph if I could turn off the VCM at will (at less at city speeds).
… the other vibration is a different animal that I am not willing to live with.
Anybody have any insights on what could be causing this? Could the wheels be off balanced again after 2-3 weeks?

it happened to my 07 MDX...i dared not bring it to the garage...just another expensive repair, I imagined.
I always wondered if it was because I wasn't always using premium unleaded gas. What kind of gas do you use?
It also could have been because of the tires. The front 2 had sidewall seeping. But why only between 80 and 100???

I had that on my 14 tech from pickup at dealer... went in for service and manager is like... i feel it and then looked at me silent.
I was like... well ok now what... he lets out a sigh and says i can have the guys check the balance.
They did and it was off SUPER slightly and i made them rebalance all 4 , perfect. ZERO issues.

I feel it on my RDX. Even on a freshly paved road I feel a mild vibration at high speed. I've felt it for a while now but it's not so bad that it bothers me. What I also noticed recently is that my alignment is slightly off. The car very slightly pulls to the left and I hold the steering wheel a degree to the right to go straight. I wonder if the two issues are related.
question: If you let go of the steering wheel, is it normal to have little vibration at high speeds like 60-80 mph?
When I drive 60-80 mph, I do not feel any but if I let go of the steering wheel, I can feel a little

Please explain what part of your anatomy is feeling the vibration when you are no longer holding on to the steering wheel.
I had the same issue - vibration coming from the rear (with no steering wheel shake) at 65+ mph. Vibration did not go away when car in neutral at 65 so it was not the engine. Dealer test drove and agreed. Dealer did a "careful" balance of the rear wheels and vibration went away. Yooo Hooo!
Old thread… Several possibilities here:
- Most likely, tire balancing. BTW, if tire cannot be balanced, possible belt shift in it.
- Tires are worn unevenly (heavy feathering, etc.)
- Bent rim. Can check during tire balancing.
- Rotors not true. You may feel pulsation while braking, or may not. Depending on car, not true rotors will induce very slight vibration at high speed.

Same here guys 04 TL. 60mph & above slight vibration, but very noticeable. Tires 30K old just had balanced & 4 wheel alignment still vibrates. Same as the time before a year ago. Their good tires. Cheers
