Emergency kind of. Car won't start--electrical problem

So this is what I found when I went out to start my car this morning. Last night it seems that the locks never locked. There's almost no sign of any power except when you open the door the little light starts blinking on the start stop button. Pushing the Maemurray seat button does nothing. The four doors were unlocked but the trunk will not open. And when you walk around to the back the tailgate the car makes that beeping noise like when it's running and you walk away with the keys. The only way to lock it is to use the actual old-school key and push it in and turn it. Obviously pushing the start stop button with the without my foot on the brake pedal does nothing. It is a 2013 RDX all-wheel-drive with tech package. About 15,000 miles. Obviously under warranty but the process of getting the thing to the dealer even using roadside assistance is tricky since I need to work all day. As it was I had to have my entire family of four including two car seats in our little mini Cooper not fun. Any ideas or is anybody heard this before?

Thanks, Mike

battery might be dead.
OEM batteries arent known for being stout.

We recently took our car in at it's one year anniversary and they replaced the battery. We had no problems, but that's probably your issue as well.

Sounds like a battery to me as well. I wonder if a light was left on and drained the battery.

At only 15,000 orig miles? That is pretty sad if that is the case. Stuff does happen.

Did you try jump starting the RDX to see if it would start? If so, then drive it and see. I had this happen with my Oddy once and it was fine for 2 years after..

again, its not UN-common to see OEM batteries take a dump. and batteries dont see "mileage".
they do have a shelf life. I live in Houston Texas where the Texas sun and heat do a number on the battery. Ive found that my batteries generally last about 2 years.

one of the best batteries out right now is the Sears Platinum die hard series.
it is made by Johnson Controls.
another battery made by Johnson Controls is the Costco branded batteries.

I purchase a new Saab 9-5 in 1999 and the second day I had it was towed back to the dealer with a similar issue...it was the battery!

Same here in the Northeast in the cold winter does a number on the battery as well. That said, my Honda Oddyssey OEM battery only lasted 3 yrs. My GTO battery only lasted 3 yrs... I remember years ago, batteries lasting longer than today, wondering if they were made better back than or probably that cars electrical systems are more demanding on them today. I remember getting at least 5 to 6 yrs out of a new OEM battery in the 80's and 90's.

I couldn't swear to it but I'm pretty sure I left the light on above the driver's seat one night and I came back in the morning and it was off (until I got back in the car, it turned on when I opened the door, and it remained on until I turned it off).

I am not sure what caused it, but my battery was dead today. Ten month old RDX. The car was last used on Saturday night, today is Tuesday, and nothing seems to be out of the norm. Acura service said it might have something to do with the push button starter.....maybe I hit it twice and out the car in accessory mode...I told them to take out the stupid button and give me a key!! More to come.....

Yeah, I agree. I actually prefer a key than the button..

As mentioned in the other thread... You have to make sure the car is shut off. Not to be rude, but "user error" That said... Unfortunately Acura/Honda push button has no lights on it.. The Infiniti/Nissan push button start button has words that light up in it... that say- LOCK, ACC, ON. if you leave it in accessory mode, the word ACC will be lit up noticeably on the button. Giving you a little more warning.

I prefer the button... you can lock/unlock the cars as well with the fob in your pocket.. totally keyless, just have to remember the fob, LOL!

when I first got my 2013 RDX in December of 2012 I had problems with my car starting on very cold mornings. Sometimes it didn't start at all or would struggle to start. Same thing happened in the winter of 2013/2014. Whenever temps are warm I have no problem.

I'm eventually ditching the oem battery and getting something better in the coming weeks. I would take it to the dealer for the warranty on the battery but I don't want another junk oem battery
