Effectiveness of A/C

Hi All:

I’m considering the purchase of a new RDX. In my research (here and elsewhere) one area of concern that keeps popping up is the effeteness of the AC. Some complain that the blowing air is not cold enough to cool a hot car down on very hot days.

While this might not be a deal breaker for me, if it does appear to be a common problem, I might choose a lighter color versus the Graphite/Parchment that I had planned.

Your experiences and thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Paul

Not a common problem. It blows cold air almost immediately and cools the cabin down quickly.
This vehicle has the best HVAC system I have experienced thus far. Order one and order it with the interior color you prefer.

I live in Texas with temps over 100 in the summer. The ac works fine. I have a white with tan interior, might help, but I think the ac is good enuf to cool any of the colors.

I have the graphite/parchment (awesome combo, btw), and the A/C cools quickly and effectively. I've even had passengers say it may be the best they've experienced.

I just remarked to my wife this morning how well the A/C works. And believe me, we notice that here in the AZ desert.

Another Texan with the same combo here. There are odd times that the A/C seems to be less effective for a few seconds, maybe half a minute; but it catches up pretty quickly. The vehicle cools down quickly after sitting in the sun; but even with tint, there's a lot of glass in that car. It can take some serious work to keep it cool while the sun beams through the windshield, especially. Overall, we're very happy with the A/C.

No issues at all. Car cools down fast and comfortably -- even for those in the back seats.

The A/C in the RDX is calibrated to move a lot of air, and it apparently has a stout compressor/condenser combo because it does produce some cold air.

If I had any criticism about it, it is that the system keeps the blower spooled up higher than I'd like sometimes, and I have to turn it down (temperature up) to talk comfortably with rear-seat passengers. I suspect rear vents would mitigate this issue, and like others I wish Acura had included them.

The only problem I had was driving north from FL, end of June, with a kenneled 55 lb dog. The kennel sat partially on the folded seats and in the rear. A cooling pad was put down at the stop and the two kennel fans moved from the sides to the front of the kennel so they could draw in the vent air (on full speed, at 70 degrees) aimed down the center. That solved the problem. Human guests have always been comfortable however, because the RDX is considered a premium car it really should have rear vents. With them I sincerely doubt there would have been a problem with an overheated canine.

Katie, the Scottie-girl, gave me some harsh looks when she noticed the missing vents...she loved putting her snout right in front of the vents in our Volvo wagons and XC60. Now, we fire a current of cold air between the seats and hope she is happy

Exterior color has little effect on the interior getting hot. Black exterior will get nearly as hot inside as a white exterior. Get the light colored interior and it'll stay cooler inside. Also, I didn't notice any issues during our test drive with AC issues. Cooled the car down quick and kept it comfortable.

I concur with everyone else, my A/C works just fine. My only complain is no rear A/C vents, but I don't have people ride in back very often so it works out fine.

The heating system also works great. I park outside and usually wake up to frost or dew on my car. This car will defog/defrost my windows faster than any other car I've had, and it's not even close. My windows and mirrors are generally clear by the time I reach the end of my block.
