CMBS Radar Location on 2017 RDX ?

Hi everyone,

Does anyone know the location of the Collision Mitigation Braking System Radar Antenna?

I'm thinking to vinyl wrap my beak but I don't want to cause issues with any of the sensors that are built into the vehicle.
I understand that I should be good to go as long as I stay away from metal / metallic paint, but I'd just like to know for certain where the antenna is located before I get started.

Thanks,

-jason

Ok, so the more I research doing this mod, the more I'm undecided on going ahead with it... Has anyone done this, or know anyone who has? Is there any impact on the performance of the CMBS? I've been unable to get a very solid answer after doing some research.

I really want to customize the look of the beak but definitely not wanting to interfere with the CMBS.

Is this another Regular vs. Premium debate? I suppose without any errors produced by the vehicle, it's near impossible to measure whether the system has been adversely affected or not. Is there evidence that wraps or paints affects the RADAR at all?

I do believe I can see the unit in this photo, in the opening on the passenger side: (credit to WSW)

I would really appreciate anyone's comments on the topic.

Jason-so far I haven't noticed any difference in operation of the CMBS. I currently have it set on long distance warning and I think that I'll back it off to medium distance. The braking warning comes on when there is a right turning vehicle slowing down in front of me, but it always was that sensitive on the long distance setting. I really don't need that warning. And yes that is the CMBS unit that you are seeing behind the opening on the passenger side of the grill, square black box about 4"x4".

Thank-you for your reply. This is probably the push I need to just go for it. Using a vinyl wrap, it can always be removed. I was thinking to DIY it, but might be a challenge by going with a carbon fiber print. I'm still waiting to get quotes from shops in my area, but so far I've been quoted between $100-$300 Canadian Rupees.

Seems like a pretty penny for what I think should take only a few minutes.

If you are going to take the beak off and put it back on after the shop wraps it, I think the $100 cost is closer to reasonable than the $300 cost. It's a lot more work taking the beak off and then putting it back on than it is to wrap the thing. For the shop to supply the wrap and apply it is almost nothing both in time and material cost. Also, as you say, by going ahead and doing it you are really not risking anything except a few "Rupees".

I removed the beak and, if I'm not mistaken, I saw the radar antenna unit. I want to say that it was the size of a 2 cell phones, side by side, and about an inch thick?
If you're facing the car, it'll be under the left horn.

Let me know if you can't find it, and I'll find time to take off the cover that leads to it and snap a pic.

Thanks for the reply! Somehow, when I originally made this post, it posted the same thread twice and I've been unable to delete this one due to my newbie status. See the other thread with the same name for the details.

I ended up finding the CMBS sensor, removing the grill and plastidipping it with no ill effects!

Thanks again for all the replies..

Just wanted to share an update, that I decided to give plastidipping a try. It went well and it's nice knowing that it's easy to remove if I ever decide to do so.

I've had no I'll effects regarding the CMBS since the plastidipping. Without being able to exactly quantify any change, I've yet to notice any drop in range or performance of CMBS or ACC.

You can see my write up about the project here.
