Backup sensors
Actually, there is a graphic on the rearview screen the flashes to give you a visual indication of where the object is that has triggered the parking sensor.
It can all get a little confusing with so many different systems doing different things...and, there is some confused folks out there.
First...the back up camera does not give a 180 deg view.
Second: The "back up sensors"...OR what Acura labels as the "Parking Sensor System." Used with sensors in the bumper surfaces for "object detection" going forward or backing.
When backing: you upper display screen will show indicators...or markings of depth and a series of beeps sound. As you get closer to the object(s) the beep rate increases. The system can be turned on or off.
The "Rear Cross Traffic Monitor" has "radar detectors" mounted UNDERNEATH the rear bumper. If you are gong under 3 mph the system alerts you if there is a vehicle approaching from left or right and is so annotated on the upper screen from which side a vehicle is approaching. Also an audible beep sounds.
And a "Caution" states the system MAY not detect all approaching vehicles or may not detect an approaching vehicle at all. I'm sure the attorneys put that one in!
It very well may NOT detect bicycles, people or stationary objects.
This system can also be turned "On or OFF."

There are lines on the screen that are a guide to how close you are to an object on the screen and the beep frequency increases as you get closer but there isn't a visual indicator like on a BMW that has green, yellow and red lights.
No, that's not true. An "object" is displayed on the "Parking Sensor System." Left or right indicators are on the "Rear Cross Traffic Monitor"....but no objects are shown...just direction of a vehicle coming.
Like I wrote before, it can get confusing...the only way to sort it all out is to read the Manual...has pictures!!...also the CD that comes with the owner's package has all the details. Rather have all paper to put in my hands as I sit in the RDX...but, no. manufacturers are going to CD's to cut down on printing costs. Some started this a few yrs ago. Grrrrrrr....!!
Just have to read...and re-read sometimes to keep it all straight. Now, let's see we also have "blind spot camera"...adaptive cruise control....collision mitigation....oh, and a "tissue" comes out on a robotic arm and wipes your tears after you have crashed into a tree because...damn, you turned the system off! Just having fun here...LOL!!

Hey "comfy"...I am truly curious...where did you come up with 170 deg? I knew it wasn't a full 180 so a driver could "see" full right or left when backing....but, I've never read any Acura material on the exact angle. Not in the RDX manuals or CD.
I simply googled it. Here's one link I've found. http://www.acuraofbedfordhills.com/reviews/2015/Acura/RDX/walkaround.htm
It's says that wide view is 175 degrees though.
All I can say is that it's close to 180 degrees as when backing out from close spaces I have very good view of traffic from both sides. I can also see the rear profile (sort of) of cars parked parallel to me on both sides.

Can't open the site....but, that's a dealer...and not an official Acura information source. Not a huge thing...my background makes me want to be so technically accurate. I taught all major systems on the DC-10 jumbo jet....so it's in my blood!!!
I don't think Acura truly "puts out" the angle on any of their official info. Have to find an Acura engineer to get the answer I bet.

You can see this info on Acura's website talking about the multi view camera feature. It says 170.
2016 Acura RDX | Features | Exterior | Acura.com
You can get a free paper copy of the owner's manuals for the first registered owner up to 6 mo after ownership at Acura Vehicle Information | Select Your Model | Acura Owners Site
I missed that and will check it out. Thank you! Of course, I can print copies of what I am "working on" from the CD, but, still a pain!!
