2016 RDX Center Console Latch

The plastic latch broke at the pin, which I understand is fairly common. There seems to be no problem getting a replacement piece, either OEM or after market. The part number is 83417-TX4-AO1.

Amazon Amazon

I gather it does not make a difference if I purchase OEM or not.

Here is where I become confused. So far, I can't locate the spring but it must be some place in the car. I think that the part number is 83411-TX4-AO1. When you look at the after market plastic latch in the link above, it shows one spring on the pin (that broke off). However, when you Google that part number, you come up with a "double" spring.

https://www.curryacuraparts.com/oem-...ng-83411tx4a01

I called two Acura dealers and both said that the spring can't be purchased separately and only with the lid for about $700!

My two questions are:

1. Is the OEM one spring as shown in the above Amazon link with the console latch?
2. Or, is the spring a "double" one as showing AcuraPartsWarehouse link above and the Curry Acura ink?

Thank you!

There should be one single spring. The double spring on yours link the entire armrest lift and does not relate to the latch. Buy on Amazon.

I think the spring in your acurapartswarehouse link is on the armrest hinge end, not the latch. You need the latch spring.

I've had the plastic knob break twice. First time I replaced it with a knockoff, second time with OEM.

I didn't lose the spring, fortunately, because I, too, have heard they're not available from Acura. You might want to sweep through your car interior nooks and crannies, under the seats, inside the console, etc. with a magnet or a car vacuum that you can retrieve yours from if it's still in the car and to be found.

I'm sure there's a similar spring available from a spring manufacturer or distributor somewhere, but I don't know the specs. The latch spring is a torsion spring that looks something like this (scroll down): https://www.springsfast.com/products/torsion-springs/

I purchased a couple of them when I broke mine some years ago, but I had a devil of a time finding that spring as well. It's there in the car somewhere, unless it wound up in your clothes somehow and got carried out. Good luck!

Thanks for all your responses. I found the spring in the car, so that's no longer an issue.

Is there noticeable difference in quality or fit between the OEM and after market black plastic latch? Amazon is easier because I have Prime, but the OEM part is only a few more dollars.

I can't say; I bought the pair I bought from Amazon, and one of them broke not long after I installed it. The other has been fine for 4 years. I would recommend getting a couple from Amazon. It's hard to see how something so simple could be engineered much differently whether OEM or a knockoff. But maybe that's just me.

The original part lasted 9 years. The Amazon knockoff replacement lasted about a year. The OEM replacement has lasted for over 2 years. You don't know the quality of the knockoff plastic or engineering tolerances. I go with Acura OEM for almost everything, because I don't like to have to make the same repair twice. Plus, every time it breaks, there's a chance of losing that priceless spring! :-)

I purchased my replacement console latch from Aliexpress for $2.50. It looked exactly like OEM. Have had no issues with quality so far. This is the part name.
