Broken Retractable Cup Holder Lid

Hi guys, new to the forum so I hope I'm posting this correctly.

My 2007 RDX retractable cup holder lid slung it's retraction spring. I heard the spring fall under the cup holder but have no idea how to get the lid or the cup holder out without taking the whole center console apart.

Has anyone else had this happen? Can anyone guide me through the steps of taking the console apart?

Something similar happened to my cupholder, and I took it to the dealership and they replaced it, no charge.

Same Thing Happened Here

My cupholder was the same way when I purchased it used at 48k (still under warrantee) At the time it just flopped open and closed with no "smooth" action... I thought it was just a cheap design... I got the extended warrantee and now I have 60k+ on my RDX... I found out through a friend recently that this was not the design, that the cupholder was broken - much like yours... I took it to my service center and they want to charge me $80 to replace it, even with the extended warrantee... It's not a ton, but the part is only $47, anybody that had this problem attempt to do it themselves if it's outa warrantee?

Removing the center console is pretty easy, follow steps 4-8 in the Musiclink DIY instructions and you should be able to see the underside of the center console to look for the spring. Also, don't pay for install if you need to replace the whole thing, taking the cup holder section is literally a 5 minute job...

One hint on step 4 is that it's easier to pull the right side trim off if you have the cupholder lid open. Hope this helps...

I have same problem with my cupholder, but I live in Russia and I can't take my car to dealer. I took the cupholder and realized, that the screw is fell out and spring is unwound. Does someone have pictures of how things should be assembled?
