2013 RDX Decelerating/Shutting Off While Driving

Just traded my '05 TL for a '13 RDX on Sunday. Yesterday (keep in mind this is 12 hours after purchase), I was driving to work, going around 65 on the highway, and the car starts to decelerate. I try to press harder on the gas, and that doesn't help. Battery light and oil lamp light came on and I pulled over to the shoulder. Put the car in park, and got the notification to press the gas+push the button to start the car...but it was on and running. Shut it off, restarted it, got 100 yards before doing this again. Took it back to the dealership, they did a transmission flush, put a new battery in and reprogrammed the computer. Service manager goes to drive it home, does the same to him. They told me it could be alternator or catalytic converter. Just called to say it's a bad fuel pump. None of my in person Acura friends have ever heard of this happening. Anyone ever had an issue with this? Nervous it may not be the fuel pump. My Acura mechanic (got the car from a Honda dealership) is out of town til the 15th. Waiting for him to look when he gets back but any help is GREATLY appreciated!!!

without inspecting and troubleshooting; your guess is as good as ours...(cuz we cant inspect or troubleshoot from the internet)

cars are mechanial. mechanical machines have moving parts. moving parts fail.
if you are having an indie mechanic look at it; wait til he can troubleshoot and inspect the car.

There is a lot of uncorrelated symptoms here. For BMWs this usually means the battery is dying. The battery may be dying because of a bad alternator.
You have got a new battery and this has happened again, however if the alternator is not charging and the new battery was sitting on the shelf for months (somewhat discharged) then this is a possible scenario again. So I would not rule out the alternator.
Alternators can be tested, no need to make guesses.
Failing fuel pump will not trigger the red battery light. Fuel pumps usually fail when sitting and the car would not start.
I can not think of a way how the catalytic converter could do this.
Deceleration I guess may be the response from the software for the oil light (which may be a false alarm due to the electrical glitch).

Whatever the cause I'd run for the hills with that car. If there's ever a better justification for returning a vehicle you've got one.

I'm getting anything fixed for free, and negotiated an extended warranty for close to nothing. I am very temped to return the car, but haven't found a deal like this one yet. That might've been my first clue! We'll see what happens when they put the new fuel pump in, but I want the alternator replaced anyway. Fingers crossed!

Our ‘91 Grand Caravan stranded my wife by going into limp-home mode in late 1998. When I went to pick her up I asked “What color?” “Huh?” “What color Accord do you want?” I managed to get 10 miles at a time before a mandatory 10 minute rest. Next morning we took off for the Honda dealer, 13 miles away. We stopped for coffee at the 10 mile mark. The dealer drove it, all well. Bought the ‘99 Accord EX in Heather Mist. The point: the ultimate buyer of the Caravan discovered and had to fix the problem. In your case, the last owner got through the dealer eval drive and unloaded it before having to fix it, like with my Caravan.

Big difference, though: The Caravan was trouble from Day 1 and some of the earlier fixes were becoming problematic again. In stark contrast, your fuel pump problem with the RDX was probably a one-time incident and the car is likely pretty reliable otherwise. So just enjoy it with it’s shiny new dealer-paid-for fuel pump.

What good is an extended warranty if it's always in the shop? They may find what's wrong with this car. But,for now, it sounds like They are just throwing parts at it. If You want a reliable car,I would keep looking.

Almost sounds like a clogged fuel filter. You can restart the engine no problem, but when you give it gas it's a no go. Hard to tell from here though. Let us know what they ultimately find.

A dying fuel pump would give the same symptoms. Or a clogged or inoperative fuel tank venting system.
