jerking

I have an auto 03 CL-P and whenever i am just cruising along low speeds, particularly 25 or 30mph and then i just let go of the gas, there is a jerk, not a very big jerk, but enough for someone to notice. It feels as if i tapped the brake and then just let go. Is there anyone else that has that kind of problem? what does that mean, is that a sign that my tranny is about to go out soon (car is only at 22k miles)

sorry if this is a repost, but i couldn't find anything when i searched for similar threads.

that happens to my cl-p too. It's normal. It's because your car is down shifting and when you tap the gas again you can feel the car wants to go.

here we go...

Why does the transmission jerk sometimes when you let off the gas?

The jerking you are feeling is most probably the lock-up torque converter in the tranny intermitently locking and unlocking especially at 40 mph+ cruise. Almost every auto tranny since the mid 90's has a form of this. In our car the gear ratios are quite tall in the upper gears. This combined with the "Grade Logic" learning computer control we have, will either lock up and save gas at low load, or if your going downhill your car will know it and not go into overdrive thus creating "Engine Braking" (kind of like when you downshift a manual tranny to brake.) Sometimes when you drive iratically (gunning to 50 mph and then coasting) like myself, the tranny is going WTF and can't decide what it is you want from it. This is part of the "Manu-Matic" part of our tranny.

i'm not so sure that it is the tranny . .my 6 speed jerks 3 times when you let off the gas . .and 3 more times when you gently apply the gas while traveling in any gear without touching the clutch. I think it is something in the throttle body/idler control .. I complained to the dealer about it and they just told me 'the new ones do it too' .. so don't be too quick to blame the tranny .. and I highly doubt that the tranny is downshifting simply by taking your foot off the gas for a moment (my 02 CLS didn't do that .. it took quite a bit of slowing down for it to downshift on its own).

thats the torque kiking in i believe all m/t or most m/t's do dat wen in low rpm which means i think ur in the wrong gear unless iss first gear. first gear always does dat for me wen in low rpm and im not stepping on the gas

it does it in every gear .. every speed .. dealer even verified that ... and no other manual that I've driven has jerked precisely 3 times (and not more or less and is always the same amount of time between) .. and it is immediately after removing your foot from the gas or just after slowly reapplying pressure .. I'm familiar with the jerking in 1st gear that you are speaking .. and this isn't that ..

I have the same issue with my 6-speed every once in a while (just once in the day).

Any clues?

maybe it has something to do with "engine breaking"?? what is that anyway?

At <2k rpm @ 30 mph (4th gear), lift your foot off the accelerator. See how you coast?

At >6k rpm @ 30 mph (1st gear), do the same.

You'll see you slow down a lot faster, the higher up in the RPM band you are.

Exactly what I was told by a mechanic

my car does the same thing! i swear it didn't do that jerking thing before and i'm only at 14,000 miles. :wtf: i'm riding it out to 15,000 so maybe i can get a new tranny! maybe that will make it feel brand new.

a throttle senser with a dead spot in it can cause a jerk, this sounds more like a cause for the sticks. the converter lock up/out should only be a slight nudge when it changes, if it jerks, there be a problem.
