Has Acura Gotten the Tranny Fix Corrected?
Wanted to solicit info that would be helpful to myself as well as other members regarding the Acura's ability to resolve tranny fix in recent history. Perhaps folks who have gotten a rebuilt (or remanufactured) tranny from Acura since mid 2006 could respond.
What is your year and model?
When got new auto tranny (approximate month/year)?
Did dealer provide a warranty?
Had any problems since?
Thanks!

In my opinion, corrected would mean that they have identified and fixed the problem areas so that people getting more recent remanufactured trannys can have some confidence that it will last (which is why many of us buy Acuras!)
Dealer advised me I will get a Goodwill replacement on my '01 CL with 64K and original tranny which is 6 mo past the warranty end (I had brought it in a year ago with hard shifting problems but they said it was OK). But they will not give me any warranty (told me I am not covered after I pick it up) unless I pay a $500 Customer Participation fee and then would get 3yr/36k warranty. Sounds pretty weird to me that Acura won't cover it for some time for free if they have made the fix.
Not too happy about the ongoing rotor and tranny issues with this car. This is my 3rd Acura- other was a 92 Legend and 97 CL which were fine. My other car is an '08 Lexus IS 250 and have had no issues with that car or the 97 ES I had for 10 years before that.

The main issue with these trannies was the lack of lubrication and the heat that was built up due to the lack of lubrication. There was no cooler option from the dealer. The fix from the dealer was to reroute tranny fluid from the case out side of the case and back down into the tranny though the atf fill hole. This basiclly allowed atf fluild to hit areas on the tranny where otherwise it was not going to ever. Some remain units came with an interal fix others with the fix partially installed, in which case we (the dealer) would have finish the install of the fix after we installed the remain unit.

So, do you think that the internal fix or the rerouted external fix has taken care of the problem tranny? I did have the oil jet kit installed at 34K but still needed the tranny replaced at 64K- perhaps the damage was already done. The dealer did a goodwill replacement at no charge and I was reluctant to pay an extra $500 for "customer participation" which was basically insurance against the tranny failing within 3 years or 36K. Any reccs to reduce risk of further tranny failure- i.e. not use sport shift? Thanks

there are several problems and the oil jet kit fixes the one where a tooth can acutally chip off of the 2nd gear shaft and cause the trans to lock up........\
the other problem is where the 2/3 clutch packs get very hit during shifting and that causes them to burn up since there is a lack of lubrication.....repeated 2/3 shifting aka rush hour traffic will make the trans die sooner.....
if your trans is turning the fluid brown every 7K like mine was, it's time for a new one

What it boils down to is that acura can't make a auto tranny (for a v6) to save their lives... They used the same basic design on all their auto tranies for the v6, they finally redesigned them for the 04 TL's and MDX's but i've still seen those models come in for trannies... i've been working at an acura dealership for the last 2 years and i've never seen a tsx, rsx or rl for that matter come in for any tranny issues... makes you wonder

Has Acura Gotten the Tranny Fix Corrected?....you say?
I'll tell you when my third tranny lasts longer than the original one did with ~79K. Frankly, I shouldn't need another one, if they corrected things. The oil jet kit did not keep my second one from dying with ~30K on it.
Only time will tell.....and so far so good with ~20K on the current one.
