i wouldnt recommend doing anything to tranny fluid besides adding it as needed.
both of the j series automatic cars i have owned have had tranny failure ~ 1-2 months after the transmission fluid was changed.

my old mechanic back when i had my pickup told me his view on flushing. he said that when you flush it gets the gunk and build up out from between the gears in the transmission, this build up actually keeps things tight as they loosen over time. you take away this gunk and you get gear slop which can lead to failure. that was his view and i've never had it done. also my sister's trans was rebuilt 2 months after a flush.

Honda does not recommend a flush for several reasons. First, some dealers install cleaners and conditioners that are not recommended. Second, the magnetic drain plug is not removed and cleaned at a flush. Third, it's technically not required under the maintenance schedule.
There is a transmission flush procedure outlined in last month's issue of ServiceNews that involves draining and refilling the transmission three times (and shifting through all five gears at least three times) in the event that the transmission needs to be flushed after a repair.

When I wanted to replace my coolant at the dealer, they quoted me 120 for the flush. Then they showed me a paper that says replace coolant and that was 80 dollars. I asked them why it was cheaper to replace and they couldn't tell me. So I didn't do it.

This is getting interesting I guess I will drive for another 10k before I sechdule an appoitment. When I call the dealer I got different price with two different dealer for a full flush $125.00 and $179.99. The drain and refill cost about 75.00.... I can do that myself my friend just did the same on his Beamer. Most people dont recommend flushing or drain which is kind of weird and I thought that was the best thing to do...

Just do drain and refill. If you need to remove lots of fluid, just do the drain and refill 3 times.

really if ur tranny is running smooth and doing fine i would touch it, when it does start to act up, and shift hard and u notice some discoloration in the fluid and smell, then drain/fill.....just keep a tab on the fluid.

Well the dealer charged me a little over 80 bucks for a drain and fill service. As soon as I left the dealership and got on the service road my check engine light flashed about 6-8 times and the car started to slow down.
So I Let off the gas and let things settle down and gently got back on and it seemed to run fine after that but was being carefull not to rev it. I called the dealer this morning and they said it was "normal" after a drain/fill...Yea right. After driving it in to work this morning it does seem to shift smoother and accelerate better. Might be on my way to a 3rd tranny. At least Acura cant say it was my fault for not changing my tranny fluid when it goes out.

I'm at 36k on my 08 TL-S and I keep getting mixed ideas about the tranny flush or drain/refill. I had a 2000 Grand Am GT that started slipping AFTER I did the tranny flush. The on my 2nd gen 2001 TL it went out at 95k after a tranny drain/flush. What is the truth?! Dealer says service code 3 will pop up on the dash close to 100k miles?!
