I had mine installed at PAA too.
I’m going to push for a refund from Comptech for the cost of the springs & install.

Damn...I cant believe all this...jonsi I am glad you got black ones because it seems the silver are not holding up. Like I said mine are black and I have had them for a long time and someone else had them before me so I cant under stand why some of yall still got silver ones recently!

I think gathering data from all the other boards is a very very good idea and once everyone sees what is going on with the springs then yall ALL should call or write one letter and put every ones name on it...or whatever will work best. This is crap for CT to do nothing....sorta like Acura when they knew tyranny's were failing and was trying to sweep it under the carpet!!!!!!!!!!

I think it could be that there wasn't a recall on them and if other places had these springs in stock and they were silver they probably got rid of old stock first.. I'll try and find out more details..

How much ya wanna bet that the new springs are made by someone else... Maybe they're Teins or H&R or something, but I'm thinking Comptech didn't make these. The box is also different, from what I remember when I bought CT Springs (and then sold them before ever installing them), the CT springs came in a plain white box with no cover or separate areas for each spring .. they were just tossed in a box with plastic bags around them and padding inside the box.

Also, I wonder if these "new" CT springs are different for all 4 corners. The original CT springs were not only different front versus rear, but they were different driver's side versus passenger side as well. I don't think any other springs made for the CL/TL have that.

Hopefully Comptech will take care of the rest of you guys ... at the very least replace the rusting silver ones with a new black set.

And for those of you saying the '04 TL got silver ones ... I don't know if saying Silver automatically equals bad. It could just be that the company powder coating the AV6/CL/TL springs had the problem and a different company is manufacturing the springs for the TSX/3rd Gen TL. This is also why I'm assuming the "new" springs for the AV6/CL/TL are black ... Comptech didnt feel like spending the R&D money to make new springs for the AV6/CL/TL so they instead just outsourced new springs with the same drop .. which happened to be black.

There are probably HUNDREDS of the Silver ones still floating around NEW in dealers & speed shop inventories.
Places that do a lot of installs buy 10, 20 or more sets at a time to get the best price.
But they might not install them until months or years later.

By the way, here’s some interesting info.

Last night I stopped at the local tire place where I bought my Toyo’s a few months ago to check out prices on replacing the rusting springs with something else.
The tech came out and jacked up the back of my car to have a better look at the really bad spring (drivers rear) and couldn’t believe what he saw.
Then he got a small hammer and lightly tapped the coils in several different spots.
As he moved around, the tone of the sound changed and he said that usually indicates that there is an internal fracture in the metal.
So mine are probably real close to snapping any day now.

I wouldn't trust them at all I don't think. Internal fractures don't come from surface rust or bad coating. The springs are trash, unfortunatley.

Doesn't Eibach manufacture Comptech springs using Comptech's specs? Thought I remembered reading that somewhere.

I doubt it. Eibachs have a lifetime warranty. Doubt they would make crap like these.

Smitty,

Did they happen to mention what their definition of "failure" will be? To me a set of springs with heavy rust after one year is a failure. Are they only going to replace them if they are actualy broken? If they're the silver ones it seems failure is inevitible.

Nope, we are worried. I don’t even have CT springs and I just read thru all 8 pages of this thread. Great info, I hope everyone who has the silver CTs gets taken care of. I only have their headers and they seem great. But even this type of news affects my image of CT. They need to take care of their customers or else they might suffer a huge hit. Its unfortunate b/c they have a rep for good Acura parts which are featured at most dealerships.

You guys work WAY too hard taking care of your rides to have something like this happen. I really hope the manufacturer takes care of everyone.

Good luck!!!

I e-mailed them a picture of mine and asked them what their idea of "failure" is. I do my own installs though.

Crap! I just bought a new set of CT springs and will have them installed next week! I hope I didn't get the crappy batch of silver colored springs. Since some of you guys have had some serious problems, I went out and bought some clear coat rust prevention paint and shot my springs with 2 coats. I know this probably won't do much but I'm just hoping to go more than 10k without rust! You guys think the clear coat will do anything?

I think if you get the "black" ones you will be ok.. No one here has reported issues with the black version.. Seems it's just the silver springs.. If they are silver I would ask for a different set..

My HRE's had about 25k miles on them, they had this dark blue coating on them. when i took the springs off with 23k on them, to put on new shocks i cleaned the springs off with a little water, and to my surprise they looked brand new, no rust at all 4 corners and no pitting or anything, just that nice blue coating on them.

You've got to be kidding me. What if they decide your springs haven't failed\rusted enough? Then your out 600$ on springs? Unacceptable.

And who foots the bill for install cost? Did they mention anything about that? And who pays for shipping of the shitty springs to them? They are heavy, that wont be cheap.

CT pays for the shipping of the springs blader; in my case they paid for uninstall/re-install of springs as well. It's not cheap and your car ends up lookin' like a friggin' 4x4 afterwards, I can't stand it but I'm not putting any lowering/sport springs back on my ride. That's what the Z is for!

For some reason it doesn't seem like they have a secretary or a deep customer service team.. I've spoken to Joe several times but only one other person has answered besides him.. I got voicemail alot, I just kept calling back..
