What is this component?

Hey Fellas,

Need to know what the item in the picture is. Wife has an 01 Acura 3.2 CL which has 125k and a BGFA tranny that was replaced at 50k (as I just learned from the dealer by providing my VIN). Within the past week, her Malfunction Indicator lit and shows code P0740.

Now, hindsight tells me I should have checked on this before buying the car 4 years ago and knowing what I know now, would have avoided it.

However, should've would've.... I am about to drain/refill tranny w/Z1, will replace the ATF cooler filter as well and see if this may make a difference.

I've read quite a bit in the last 3 days concerning this crap tranny so I have quite a bit of info. and I fear this may be the start of the end of this trans, yet I cannot seem to find a diagram of a trans. that depicts my wife's transmission. I've Googled it and found tranny diagrams that are of the 2001 CL but they do not look the same and I suspect the difference lies in the replacement transmission that was put in at 50k. I am not very educated on transmission mechanics so I am stumped as to what this is.

I'd certainly like to know what this component is and would love to find a diagram of this transmission online. Would certainly appreciate any input on either.

Regards,

Just to be clear, this item sits atop the transmission and the cooler return filter (seen in black) screws into the base of which this part sits. It also has an elbow coming out of it towards front of vehicle and a hose that attaches to it which runs back between engine and firewall.

Transmission Cooler? In addition to the looped cooler which sits in front of radiator?

That's your AC condenser.

Incorrect. The ATF Cooler on this Acura is merely a tube that forms a loop which sits in front of Radiator and Condensor. Air cools the tube which cools the fluid somewhat.

Also incorrect. I've since learned that this component is actually an ATF WARMER (p/n: 19430-P8E-A01).
