Is a Vented Battery necessary for our car?

Hey Guys,

The battery in my CL-S is going bad, so I went to Advance Auto Parts to pick up a replacement. They had Size 24 AutoCraft Gold batteries in stock, and I was going to pick one up.

However, their system showed the battery as not being compatible. It only showed the Optima Yellow Top battery, and had a note saying that the OE battery was vented and this was necessary.

The cashier said that if I installed a non-vented battery like the AutoCraft, I could screw up my electronics. Is this true? Any recommendation of a reasonably priced battery that would work? I checked Autozone and their Duralast gold didn't appear to have vents (however their system shows it as compatible), and neither did the Everstart Maxx battery at walmart (Unless I didn't look properly). Is my best bet to grab a battery at the dealership?

Thanks!

Doesn't matter if it's vented or not. What will matter is the vent caps. The bar that goes across the top of the battery may not fit between the vent caps. Some batteries have a flat top or a spacer that goes on top of the battery that will work.

Vented only matters if it's going to go inside the car like in the trunk. Those batteries have a vent tube that connects to the vent outlet on the battery to allow the gasses to vent in case of build up.
Bunch of double speak from them too, since an Optima is a sealed non vented battery.

So basically the guy was full of it then? Should I be fine with the autocraft as long as the size and terminal orientation is correct, even though it doesn't show as compatible? They have 2 listed, if I understand correctly the only difference between them is terminal orientation?

Sweet, just went today and it installed no problem. Thanks! $70 with a 5 year warranty is a pretty sweet deal IMO.

If it fits, makes stock or MORE CCA, and is made by a decent battery maker, then you are golden.

My oem battery lasted 8 years and and the repalcement meant for construction equipment is now going on 4 years old with no isses
