I was surprised though to see the old belt in like new condition,it was hard to tell the old from the new the old belt showed no cracks or wear. The mileage on the car is 116,000 miles.

Well when you say T-belt change, you do mean that you changed the water pump, tensioner and seals, too, right?

TB may look like brand spanking new but @ 116k its internal structure is severly weakend. $500 is an average for this kind of repair, it takes about 3 hours to complete...

Lol what..

Some cars having timing chains and some cars have timing belts.

We have belts as you know and yes you can buy an aftermarket belt if you wish, you don't need to go with OEM. But being that its not much cheaper to buy aftermarket and the OEM one is proven durable being that its been on the car already, I would just stick with that one.

not sure if that was a question or not

but ya chains, and they are way better. this guy I know said that it only has to be changed once every 500 000 miles rather than 105 000. I was just wondering if there is anything better than oem that we know about?

Well chains aren't necessarily better.

1.) they are noisier
2.) they can stretch

and you still would need to replace cam seals, valve cover gaskets, water pump, valve adjustment, tensioner, etc with a chain. The only part you dont need to touch is like a 35 dollar belt.

just because your chain lasts 500k doesnt mean everything else on the engine will

i've done 2 t-belt jobs so far, and both times the old belt looked just about as good as the new one. but like celynka said, looks can be deceiving. the thought of leaving the old one on crossed my mind for a split second, but it's def not a risk i'd be willing to take.

Your forgetting that chains are heavier than belts. Chains are needed in non interferance engines where if it failed the valves would hit the top of the pistons.

are you asking for advice or are you taunting?

you need to change it or risk getting a new engine.

What I've done the job at the last year on my garage. It took me 2 days to align the cams and cranks. Also cost $300 for the parts. Now as good as new.

timing belt
water pump with gasket
thermostat and gasket (not pictured)
timing belt tension adjuster
timing belt tensioner
timing belt idler
both accessory drive belts
front crankshaft seal
two front camshaft seals

I need to have my 105K maintenance done..........but that $900 Acura bill is VERY scary lol.

Do you think I'll notice a difference in how the car performs once the job is completed? I feel like it's lost some "spunk" especially in the lower gears. Doesn't seem to pull off the line as fast as it used to and the engine just seems kinda weak.

after parts and labor I shelled out over 1000 dollars. I did it without complaints because I knew it was being done right and that it would ensure that my engine would last another 105k.

I felt a gain in power probably due to the spark plug change and the valve adjustment.
