Strange noise in engine bay

I have been working on this car for over a month now and am nearly finished. I have only two issues left: 1) My headlights aren't sealed properly and I will need to re-bake them and use something other than the clamps I used the first time, and 2) there is a strange whistling sound coming from somewhere in the engine compartment.

The headlights I think will be fine once I re-bake them and use more firm pressure to hold them until the silicon glue cures, but that humming is worrying me. It sounds like when you blow on a bottle, that whistling sound. Before anyone suggests, its NOT the sound of the abs check or whatever that hum is when you initially start the car. Its much different and it is constant.

It sounds like it is coming from somewhere near the belts and pulleys. I had an alignment done this weekend and he suggested it may be the fuel filter. He doesnt own or service acc's, so I am not sure he even has a clue other than an educated guess. If anyone has experienced this or knows what it is and how to fix it, your response would be GREATLY appreciated! Thanks in advance!

Check your airbox and make sure it's sealed correctly

Possibly a belt slipping. What work have you been doing?

fuel filter is in the gas tank. dont let him touch ur car again.

my intake manifold cover was making a loud whistling sound, forgot to tighten one bolt.
it can be a belt slipping or it can be the idler pulley or any other bearing making noise.

Ok, I'm officially a resident of Dunceville now. After looking at and testing every theory I had EXCEPT the airbox (swore it wasn't it), I find out that was EXACTLY what it was! I had just dropped a bit next to the airbox in that small lil space to the right of it. I had to disassemble the airbox to get down in there. I put it back together and just KNEW that I had the two sections lined up flush and the two screws tightened.

lol...I feel like a complete dunce! Thanks to everyone who replied to my thread. I probably would have never rechecked without you all, thinking that I couldn't have fumbled on such a simple procedure. It gets better though...I put my left palm/wrist on the radiator cap as I checked the airbox. Then I SNAPPED the nub that connects to the tube coming from the overflow tank!!! Tried superglue, but its not holding once I push the tube back on. Can this be soldered/heat gunned successfully?

JB weld? Where do you pick this up at; Home Depot/Lowes? Wal-Mart? Discount Auto Parts??? Never really seen it, but this is the second time I have heard it mentioned. I need to fix this ASAP cuz I know that I am losing fluid as soon as the engine gets hot, and I dont want to burn the engine up cuz of such a small thing. Thanx 4 the input civ...

Get the JB Weld putty. It is easier to use and you dont have to clamp it. It sets in 5 mins and is fully cured in 1 hour.

Damn, wish I came back here b4 I bought the two tubes. It broke off again after I put it on. I guess I need to use it to wrap completely around the housing where the cap sits for extra strength. I just put it all around where the break was, thinking that the pressure going thru that hose was fairly low. Boy was I wrong!

Thanks to all for your suggestions. Damn sure ain't buyin a new radiator because of this b/s!
