Question Specific cause of headers not fitting 6-speed...?

So, I'm usually the first to scream "use the search button" on forums, but I've done all the searching I can (and yes, I read the FAQ too), and I'm still confused. I'd like to install headers and understand most reasonably priced (DC) headers won't fit the 6-speed, and I've read that there is a clearance issue with either the oil pan, or frame. Can anyone tell me for sure which it is? Is this issue something that can be fixed by modifying and re-welding some of the pipe?

I've already had to modify an auto-only CAI (which was remarkably easy), so I want to make sure I know what I'm getting into this time. Thanks!

Its not the oil pan thats the issue. The rear mount gets in the way. Look at the rear header. The headers made for the 6MT (Comptech, XS) have a kink in them. The autos do not.

You can grind away some of the material on the mount bracket to get it to fit if you are determined to run the DC headers. Its not something I would do though.

better to just go with headers made for the 6-speed then modifying

but anyways not really a "kink", more of a "S" bend in the one pipe

and btw modifying an auto-only CAI is not all that hard, you just put an extension in there, to have it go up further, modding the headers is a little more involved

I bet if you really wanted you could get the auto headers and just have a exhaust shop do it right for some money

but then that cylinder will run richer then others though, which will also make the other run leaner, due to the lack of exhaust flow that cylinder has (yes a curve in the pipe is not as good as a straight section, but a whole lot better then a dent though, which takes away cross sectional area on the pipe)

remember we only got ONE o2 sensor which AVERAGES, the air/fuel mixture of ALL the cylinders

That's the plan. A friend is a tech at a speedshop and is a good welder (a skill I so despreately wish I could acquire). I'll post pics when it gets done.
