2001 CL. Just replaced a failing alternator. Drove a few blocks as electronics cut out. Not sure what could've fried.

The key only sometimes is able to do anything at all. When it is able to do anything it can turn on the accessories but turning to ignition kills everything with just a click sound. Wondering if I should be looking at replacing an ignitions switch or just reprogramming the key or something else i'm missing completely?
