IACV? plugs? TPS?
IACV? plugs? TPS?
Hey guys, first post here, I bought an 01 CL type S about a month or two ago and everything seemed to run very smooth. At idle you wouldn't even know the engine was running if it wasn't for the tach. Then one day on my way to work, i was slowing for a red light and just prior to coming to a complete stop my car starts to shake a bit and sort of lurch like it's idling really rough. When i apply full brakes you can't feel it as much but if i let of the brake to just idle forward it's rough and kind of shaky. I've attempted to clean the IACV, just sea foamed it today (got a big puff of smoke when i first punched it then nothing after that). When it first happened the CEL flashed a few times and is now staying on most of the time. I'm still trying to find somewhere to check the code for free, but other than changing the plugs is there anything else anyone can think of that would cause this?? Any help is much appreciated!
Got the CEL read, i'm misfiring on 4 cylinders. Mechanic doesn't think i'd have 4 bad coils so i'll replace all plugs today and see if that fixes it. Otherwise what kind of cost am i looking at for the coils??
If you put seafoam in there, the solvent will cause a misfire in the cylinders. If you wait a few days, the code will clear itself up.
Not sure why you had low idle in the beginning though, maybe your IACV went bad.

so changed all the plugs today, reset the ecu (removed #13 clock fuse) and the car seems to idle a bit WORSE now! Definitely more shaky on idle and slow roll, once i get the rpm up to 2K or higher it's fairly smooth. Will go back to the shop tomorrow to read the CEL (came back on about 10 seconds after reset) and see if 4 cylinders still misfiring. I'm in Canada, Winnipeg to be specific, and got a quote of about 75$/coil... shiiit

So originally when i had it scanned there were 4 cylinders misfiring (can't remember which ones). Replaced the plugs, and had it scanned today and now only cylinders 2 and 6 are misfiring. I'm hoping it's something as little as me not screwing the plugs in enough or bad gap so i'll check on that, otherwise, I might need to hit up SPoolinspOON for 2 of your finest coils. My problem is i'm not sure which cylinders are #2 and #6. If i was looking at the engine from the front of the car, there's the 3 in the back and 3 in front. My guess would be from left to right, #1 #2 #3 in the back then #4 #5 #6 in the front??? Can anyone answer this for me please?
Excellent, thank you sir. I've switched 2 and 3, and then 5 and 6, it runs a bit better but still not perfect. I'm thinking my problem may only be 1 coil thankfully. Would it be wise to expect that the other 5 could be on their way too? What causes these coils to fail/malfunction?
