Dashboard sensor cover?
Dashboard sensor cover?
Hi Im new here. I just bought an 2001 Acura cl s-type and on the dashboard right in front of the windshield theres a hole about an inch across thats looks like its missing a plastic cover. Does anybody know what thats called and where the best place to get one from is? If you need a pic ill take one and post it. Thanks!

Crap. This isnt what I wanted. What I want covers a square hole. What I got in the mail is a piece of rubber tubing thats capped on one end. There goes 13 bucks. Now I have to re-figure out what the part is.

also by the way it sounds is you got a alignment post sound insulater for the dash
and is this what you talking about (#1) (and basically dead center on the dash also)

and i don't know why it would be missing it's cover anyways, comes as an assembly with the sensor itself
btw the top of the sensor should be like a translucent black color, so if you have a tan interior, no way it is ever going to match it

I will. Its at the dealer getting the sunroof worked on. Once I get it back ill post a pic. Its just a square hole right in the center of the dashboard next to the window with what looks like a sensor in it. It doesnt look like its supposed to be open like that.

like so (pic taken through the windshied btw):

if so; perfectly normal, and remember the sensor has to be actually able to see the sunlight, so the reason for the translucent looking cover

Haha I almost made a post about this glad I saw this thread. Mine is broken too but I still have the cap. It wobbles around a bit on the bumps. Dealers calling it a sun beam sensor.
I get my local dealer to price match so I don't have to deal with shipping and I can make sure I get the right part. Call up your dealer see if they'll price match. If they will here's the link - 30 bucks.

yes Im missing that translucent cover. Is it possible to buy that? Is it SENSOR ASSY., SUN BEAM part # 80510-S84-A41?
have never notice mine wobbling around, cause i actually pay attention to the road and not the silly sensor
, let alone my car has proably been lowered 80k plus miles, so increased vibration from the road itself
sun beam sensor, correct could not really be more descripetive of what it does (maybe, but very close anyways), what it does is like what civic said above ^^^, it senses how much sunlight/heatload is hitting the car, in order to be able to adjust the HVAC system accordinglly (and mainly the fan speed at that)
also i had already posted a link to it :shakehead

the "cover" comes as part of the sensor, so yes the sensor will also be replaced at the same time, so the reason for the $30 pricetag
maybe try glueing it on, if you are that worried about it
, then if that doesn't work, then just replace it
also for glueing it, keep the the glue around the outside edges, so that you do not cover the actual sensor, otherwise you will proably be sweating up a storm especially during summer, and woundering why the f*** the hvac system does not seem to be working correctly (especially if the sun is hitting the windshield)(and it is extremely important for you collins, being that you are in AZ, with using your AC proably year round almost)

In my case the translucent cover didnt fall off I bought the car with it missing and I was wondering why there was a hole in the dash with a glass "eye" poking out of it. lol. Ill just buy the sensor and replace it. thanks for your help man!
My link was better...
Ironically I just wrote a process essay on how to obtain a ticket/cause an accident - my teacher thinks we need to practice the use of sarcasm...
And my last car was held together with superglue I'm not sure if I can do that to my Acuhhraa!

that works too
, just be really careful pulling it out, otherwise you will leave a mark on the dash itself, or might lose the wires behind the dash, then the whole dash would have to come out proably
if not retriveable
and AWESOME

Are you insinuating that "fudgepackers" are dangerous drivers? Lets us just set the record straight..
Things to avoid doing while behind the wheel:
Things to avoid doing while behind the wheel:
- Talking on the cell phone.
- Eating while driving.
- Tuning the radio or CD player.
- Putting on make-up.
- Reading a map or book while driving.
- Text messaging.
Getting a blowjob while driving can become very distracting. Im not seeing that on your list.

OP - Sorry I posted the wrong part number.

Ok so I finally got around to replacing the sensor today but since its missing the cover its fallen into the hole and i cant get the damn thing out. lol
Is there any other way to access it without ripping out the dash? Do those long vents on the side pop out?
