How hard is it to replace clock light?

My clock light is out. My dealer wants eighty freakin' bucks to change it. $5 or so for the bulb, and the rest for labor.

Is it really that hard to change that bulb? If it is, I'll do without, even though I hate to have anything in my ride not working.

If it's not really that hard, can someone advise me as to how to go about it.

Please and thank you.

That's about 45mins of labor or so, unless they have cheap shop rates.

very very simple

remove the 2 screw about the instrument cluster
pull the plastic trim out, remove the 5-7 harness, about 3 by the left switches and 3 or so behind the climate control. find where the bulb belongs and replace it

Thanks, Cloe. I'll give it a try and let you know.

It can be a wacky ride, so a few whacks should fit right in.

I didn't know there was a light in the clock. Got mine from the dealer like that. Thought it was strange since my old honda clock light worked. Well, now I know.

Ok, I went out and whacked the stuffing out of clock. Didn't help. It's the story of my life - I never get anywhere with violence.

Still, I'll give it another whack every once in a while. Sooner or later I might get its attention.

Thanks for all the responses.

Thanks for the idea

My clock light was out too - I was just living with it because I didn't want to deal with the removal of dash panels and the resulting squeeks or rattles that might occur. Last night I whacked the clock twice and voila! the light is back on!

Thanks for your response. Based on advice from others, I tried that. No joy.

Next time in the car after dark, I think I'll try it again.

Thanks, again.

I tapped on the clock and it didn't come on, I banged on it with the side of my fist and it came on. For those who remember the Fonz from Happy Days . Heyyyyyyy!!

Now I can rest

I did it in under an hour. Cost of bulbs $1.90 at Radio Shack. Here are the instructions I followed (pix included). Just be careful not to break tabs or scratch your dash (I wrapped a flat head screwdriver with electrical tape).

My clock light has been out for a while, too. I finally decided to do some research and replace the bulbs, but, decided, what the hell. I beat the clock, and the light came on. Go figure.

Seems a little rediculous don't you think. I mean everyone needs to know the time, even at night.

Is the clock in the same place in the '03 as the '01 (center console very top)? I bought my car used and it really bothers me that I can't see the time at night without looking at my phone! I'll definitely be adding that to my ever-growing list of to-dos for my baby.
