Car won't start.

I read all the other topics about car start troubles. It might be the main relay but I don't know. I hear the 3 distinct clicks that means the relay is fine (right?).

I turn it to start, it will do that chug-chug-chug sound but it never actually starts.

EDIT: The car was working fine yesterday.

• All the lights come on like normal.
• AC works, radio works, power windows work.
• The green key light also turns on and flashes.

If you need any other info let me know.

Today was pretty hot (around 85 F) and I usually leave my car in the sun. This is the first time it's happened and today is the first day where it's been particularly hot outside.

Any ideas?

 

Main relay is only fuel issue - engine cranks normally but doesnt start or starts and dies immediately. Does your engine actually crank? or you get strange rattles after turning key ?

 

what ^ he said..Does it crank like it is about to start or just make clicking noises?
If i cranks like its gonna start then maybee the fuel pump and if it doesnt maybee the starter?

 

yea it cranks like it's about to start but never does actually start.

i'm going to go check right now to see if it will start now that it is cool.

 

k and because i can't edit the message, i just want to update that the car does start when the weather is cool.

 

MOST LIKELY the main relay... do a search here at AZ... DIY that puppy and get rolling!

 

btw Schkd...what are you rollin? Mine is a 2001 CLS.... same issue... DIY'd abt 1 year ago....nvr happened again!

yea it's a 2001 CL-S. so it's the main relay? should i just go ahead and fix it myself?

 

Sure DIY - its simple . Takes 20 min to replace or an hour to clean the old one. Need to take down plastic cover under steering wheel and look for a box to the left of steering column - aprox size of pack of smokes with two plugs.
