Engine revs by itself and makes a whining noise

Today, I was an idiot and removed my intake manifold cover just to have a look at the carbon build up. Prior to doing this I had been reading about how carbon buildup lowers fuel efficiency drastically, and also read the easiest place to see it was under the manifold cover. So after unscrewing it, and removing it, I tried to scrub off some of the black build up with a paper towel, but it didn't do much so I left it out to let cool for like 10 minutes, and then screwed it back in. I then started the car and two problems immediately appeared. The car revs by itself between 900rpm to 1900rpm, and there's a high pitched whining noise coming from the engine after it passes 2000 rpm. So I decided to drive it around for a while to see if it would disappear, and now the check engine light, and TCS light have come on.

SOMEONE HELP ME!!!

Also prior to this I vacuumed out my air filter box and air filter before I messed with the cover if that helps.

Thanks in advance.

I also read around and some people have mentioned that its the ball bearings in the transmission that causes the whining, but it couldn't have possibly suddenly surfaced out of nowhere like that?

Did you put the manifold cover gasket back on the right way ?
A tooth brush and some carb cleaner, gas, rubbing alcohol, anything that will clean with get that stuff out.
A paper towel is not going to do sh@#.
clean the vallys and the gasket and the holes that go into the intake.
Also make sure the holes that go threw the intake are lined up with the gasket so the hole will not be blocked by the gasket..

If there was no problem before you started mess'n around you made a vacume leak some where, or the gasket that you re installed needs to be turned around.

take the cover back off and see if the holes that go into the manifold are lined up with the gasket.
If that don't work call electrolux to help with the leak.

u probably didnt connect a vacuum line. thats why its reving up and down. as far as the noise goes, describe whining exactly? is it like a belt whining or some where from the intake?

The whining could simply be the suction from the leak.

Where are you located?

Thanks so much guys for all the suggestions, I cleaned off both the gasket and manifold cover of all the carbon gunk using alcohol and toothbrush, and made sure everything was aligned and extra tightened. I then restarted the car, and it started a lot easier, and the revving and whining noise was gone. The check engine light disappeared after half an hour of driving.

Thanks again guys!

btw does anyone have any tips for cleaning out other carbon buildup, I heard that there's some stuff like seafoam you can pour in to both your gas tank and oil?

You can pour it in the gas tank. I wouldnt put it in the oil. It cleans very well, but some of that gunk in the crankcase may be "plugging" the holes in old seals so you may get leaks afterwards.

you can still feed seafoam through the intake and that could clean the intake valves more.

but read up on how to do it first, you dont wanna mess up again.
