Brake Lights stopped working

My '01's brake lights have stopped working. I also have to use the manual swtch next to the shift lever to get out of park. The cruise control disconnects fine when I touch the brakes. Any Ideas?

The brake switch is bad. This is the switch that the brake pedal contacts underneath the dash. This is probably the cause of both problems you mentioned.
