Lol I can easily say now at this point I can swap a J-motor with my eyes closed, comfortably laying in my bed. It's just a pain to do all over again while juggling work/life. Sometimes I wish that I wasn't a mechanic and didn't know how to turn wrenches so I can just pay someone else to do all the work, but I'm stubborn and try to do everything myself and learn as I go
I look at cars this way... Eventually, you will have fixed every part that can break until you have a new car!

Oh, and knowing how to swap a J V6 is never a bad thing!

I'm going to pick up the new J35a3 tomorrow. It has 72k on it for $400. That's actually a good deal on that low mileage motor. I'm just trying not to get excited about anything anymore, maybe things will work out right this time. I have no idea why this paragraph is so screwed up, hopefully the motor won't be

Wow, I agree! With that mileage, that is a great price.

If possible, try and get any available historic info so you can tell how long it may have been sitting.

I left this morning to go pick up the engine. On their website it says that they are open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturdays. I borrowed my neighbor's truck and started heading that way as I called three times just to make sure that they are open. Nobody answered. So I decided to call the owner which had texted me pictures of the motor on his personal cell phone. He picked up and told me that they are closed on Saturdays.....wtf? I told him on your website it says that you are open, and he said yeah I don't know why it says that, go figure.... Good thing I was only 10 min from my house. It's about an hour drive, but anyways, here is a picture he sent me from the information on that motor. It has 77k on it, which is still really good. I guess I'll need to find some time this next week to pick it up

So it looks like it has been 'on the self' from about Dec 2013? If possible take a few pics.
Just a suggestion, you know the drill for CYA (pay with a credit card ), maybe when you get there they can demonstrate that the thing turns over etc.
Still sounds like a really good deal, it's just unfortunate that you could not pick it up today.

Thanks for reminding me to pay with a CC Zeta! Since it's been sitting for at least 6 years, this time I plan on bringing my compression tester (and some tools) and turning over the crank with a 1/2" breaker bar and see what each cylinder gives me. It'll give me an idea. As long as all the numbers are roughly around the same, it should be fine. I already have my j32a2 ready to pull, took me half the day today. Not sure if that's something to brag about or not...
Also, I figured out what I am going to do with the J35a3. I am going to leave it alone and just put all my bolt-ons on it. I'm not going to put j32a2 heads/cams on it. Why you might ask? If I swap the j32a2 heads/cams most likely I would have the heads/valves looked at by a machine shop. Chances are that I would need new valves/springs/retainers on either heads, so might as well do them both. At that rate might as well port them. Now I would need new head gaskets and head bolts. Then I would have to do a valve lash job. You see where I'm going with this... It would be more and more time and money by the time it is finished. For maybe 15 whp more? I just want to be done with this. If I just drop the j35a3 in with all my bolt-ons, I'm sure it'll feel like my last j35. Probably wouldn't either need a valve lash job, hoping it'll be as quiet as my 04 mdx that has 185k on it. And if I'm not fully satisfied, then I'll put the SC'er on. Which I'll probably end up doing anyways.

I got slammed with work this past week so I didn't have a chance to do anything with that J35a3 up until today. I put it on an engine stand this morning and stripped everything off of it. Just down to the block and heads basically. I'm going to clean it up as best as I can without painting it. It took pretty long to clean, prep, and paint my previous j32a2 which it looked amazing, but once it's dropped in the car all you see are the valve covers. My j32a2 literally looks better out of the car than it does in lol. So this time I'm not going to spend all that time prepping it and painting the j35a3. Here I say it, but my OCD will probably kick in once im cleaning it and probably will paint it after all.

Sounds good.
I uninstalled the CT ESM from the ECU wiring on my project CL-S. Just have to reconnect the 'Map' sensor wire. Going to try and use those new butt connectors (link below) that have the low melting temp solder in the middle. If that turns into a fail, then I'll just buy a solder kit and use that.

when I did my valve cover gaskets last week I kept putting the cover on the engine back to confirm how much of anything can actually be seen.

Hey 2ndgentl, what's up? Did you have success with your latest J35A3 swap, or did you just sell the car.

Hi Zeta, unfortunately I haven't had time to do barely anything on the car. I can't believe how busy I've been with work this time of year, no complaints though...I do have the new j35 on an engine stand all cleaned up and the blown j32 on another engine stand ready to transfer parts. I also talked to Aasco and they said to go ahead and send them the flywheel so they can change out the ring gear since it's buggered up in a few places from the starter grinding on it in the past.

No worries, and a 'positive cash flow' from work always takes precedent.

@rockstar143 I was thinking he, maybe, moved on to an LSA.

WTF did I do......lol. I'm never an impulse buyer but yesterday I saw that some old man posted this 1992 integra for sale on craigslist. 1992 integra LS/ 5-speed/ original owner/ ONLY 63K on it! It looks brand new inside out! So I bought it for $4k. Still not sure what I'm going to do with it, but I knew that I couldn't pass up this rare gem. At least I now have a car to drive while I'm working on the CL

Awesome find. Back in the day I would never have owned a car with mouse trap seat belts, but had I seen that car I probably would have bought it on the spot as well.

Here's the CL-S a/t one I bought in Nov 2019. 50,909K and S/C'ed for $3375 shiped from NY.

Now it's back to stock.

I owned 2 Da (1993) integras back in the day, and I absolutely loved them. This car will be a handling machine once I'm done with it. No point in trying to make it fast since I have the CL. I feel like a kid again with this integra. It still smells like 1992 inside lol

That DA is probably the deal of the decade. Too bad it's not a GS or GS-R but for an LS it's looking good.
If I didn't just buy my 03 CL-S6 I'd make you can offer for it . I owned two DA's back in my day too.

What?!!! Wow!! Only 50k on it?!! I can promise you there isn't another CL on this planet with lower miles than that. Nice find Zeta!

Agreed, I wish it was a GSR, but those just don't exist anymore and would be a lot more than $4k. Who knows though, I might swap an engine in it someday, but for now I'll just make it look really nice and handle good. I'm still trying to convince my fiance what a rare gem this car is. She doesn't see the beauty in it just yet, but give it time it'll grow on her lol

They never understand. Took me two years of convincing my wife that the CL was going to be a rare gem. I really wanted an Aztec Green GS-R (the one that was on Bring-A-Trailer) a couple of months ago but couldn't convince her 10k for a 30 yr old car was a good purchase. Hence the 5k CL-S6 w/ 95k

Thanks, 2ndgentl! I apologize for 'crowding' in on your excitement. However, when I saw your Integra LS purchase, it brought my recent purchase excitement back to life.

I have a question for you, though. This is in regards to the Navi system in your CL-S6. When you remove power, by either disconnecting the battery or pulling the #13 clock fuse, does your Navi system power-up and function properly after restoring power, entering the 'security code' and then starting the engine?

After I performed the S/C'er removal, timing belt and valve adjustment, when I restored power and entered the security code, the navi system worked only at the 'On II' ignition position; however, when I went to turn the ignition to start the car, the Navi display would go black. There would be no functionality at all while the car engine was running. Have you ever had this problem with your Navi, through the years?

I finally figured out and fixed the problem above, yesterday, with a 'forced download' of the navi disc via the navi prompts and now the display comes on while the engine runs. So I'm 'good to go'. I was just curious if you ever had such an anomaly.

Finally a rainy day so that I could get back to working on my CL.... Well, I found the culprit which caused my timing belt to break after I disassembled the j32a2 today. The timing belt tensioner (actuator) went dead limp, wasn't even touching the tensioner pully. Which, with no tension on the pulley to tighten the serpentine belt the belt was loose and bound up down at the crank where it snapped. The good news is that no valves were broken, just ever so slightly bent. Which means I can save that j32a2 and build it back up another day. I'm going to buy an OEM Honda timing belt kit this time. The previous one I bought was made by AISIN, which is a reputable oem company, but I'm done taking chances

I've also been messing with the 92 integra a little bit. Just put on coilovers, front/rear sway bars, 1-piece headlights, and 96 rs wheels on it. Handles like a go-cart, but I miss my CL's power...

Hey stranger!

That sucks about the TB tensioner.
I believe that is the first one (Aisin) that someone has had fail and reported here.

Hi Zeta! Yeah, I was surprised to see that the tb tensioner was dead. I wasn't expecting that... But, kind of excited to put a j35 back in there. Loved that motor. Not swapping the type S cams over this time. I probably won't even notice a difference.

When I read his post my brain translated it as, "The Aisin tensioner is the OEM unit for Honda V6 engines." Obviously I might could well be wrong.
