Acura CL misfire

Hey guys so I have a 2003 Acura Cl that’s had some misfire issues for about a month now. At first I decided to change all the spark plugs witch did not fix the problem. I then decided to take it to a mechanic to take a look. At first he changes one coil and tells me it’s good to go. On the way home it was fine for a few miles then it started misfiring just as bad. So I take it back the next day. He tells me it’s a VVT solenoid that needs to be cleaned then later tells me it’s another coil so he changes that and I take it home again. It runs fine for a day or so then starts misfiring just as bad. Now it runs fine then randomly begins misfiring(CEL light comes on also) for a minute then stops again. My Auto Tech teacher(who was a Honda Master Tech for 20 years) tells me there is a good chance it is the valves that needs adjusting. So here I am wondering if any of you guys have had the same issue or have any suggestions.

Forgot to note that the car has 270k miles and that I was getting random misfire code as well as misfire codes from all cylinders.

I would bet money on the valve adjust if they've never been done. Maybe do it on the cheap as a class project?

Thats a great idea except that we’ve only been in class for a few and have only covered jacks, lifts, impacts, Changing/balancing tires. So still have a bit of ways to go before we crack the heads.

Your intake manifold gasket is upside down. Six ports are being blocked. I fixed mine by flipping the gasket.. Sounds crazy, doesn't it? So simple. It works. Not only did it work for me but it 'unleashed' 20 per cent more horsepower. I've read conspiracy theories on the web about this claiming the gasket was intentionally flipped by the manufacturer to tone-down the CL's horsepower. They were worried it would show up the NSX of that era.

So I did the valve adjustment a week ago and it’s still misfiring just as bad. Any tips?

Yes, I had random misfires around 111k: replaced all the ignition coils, and immediately fixed.
Ignition coils should be replaced as a set and thought of as a maintenance item, like plugs.
