2-3 Shift Problem

Hey guys, I've got a small problem with my CL and want some opinions/ideas. Its an 01 CLS on its 3rd transmission (latest replacement was January 07)... I've had the car for over a year, and only really noticed the problem last week because I haven't really raced past normal driving conditions much... Hell, only hit Vtec a few times... (blame autotragic paranoia)

In SS mode, under normal driving (shifting at low revs), the 2-3 shift is fine... But if I hit the throttle harder and try to shift it over 5K rpm, the car won't shift out of 2nd gear to 3rd unless i tap the shifter up like 3 or 4 times. At first I thought maybe I was doing something wrong, but its becoming more and more consistent. I'd say it does this about 50% of the time? I'm going drain/refill the fluid next weekend and see if that makes a difference. Any opinions or similar experience would be appreciated.

Please spare me the "shoulda gotten a 6spd" comments. I already know.

Drain your tranny and change the atf filter. These slush boxes clogg it pretty well!

uh... bump...

There's no changeable trans filter... There are screens that can be replaced, but they're inside the tranny...

Anyone got some better advice? I drained/refilled 3 quarts of fluid yesterday and the car does seem to be shifting a lot more smoothly but I haven't noticed if the 2-3 shift problem in SS has been fixed yet...

Transmission was replaced January 2007, car had 115K miles on it. I purchased the car in October 2007 with 120K on it, Car currently has 134K on the clock. Transmission came with a 3 year 36K mile warranty from Acura. Is the warranty on the transmission transferable to me?

There is an atf filter, right on the top of transmission there is atf passage and atf coler/warmer - thats where the filter is located - looks almost like fuel filter - part# 25450-P7W-003. Restricted filter will cause significant pressure drop and transmission to jerk, slip Acura service advisors saying - its not servicable - its big fat BS and I changed it myself twice

I'm reading mixed things... 95% of what I'm finding is saying there are only screens inside the transmission, but the part you listed exists.... soooo... wtf :-\

til I came across this? https://acurazine.com/forums/2g-tl-1999-2003-98/transmission-filter-598388/

celynka, the pictures listed in that thread... is that what you were talking about? Is the filter easily accessible? Has anyone else looked at replacing theirs?

I red that post and thats, in fact, filter I talk about. I do not want to dispute opinions of these guys and how the oil is redirected throgh the tranny, but I tel you one thing, I changed it, it was so clogged I couldnt blow through it - new one , no problem. It did immediately remove jerking an slipping and still running fine after 10 months. I agree it may not help everyone - if you run it continiously with low pressure, you ll slip and burn your cluthes and no filter will recover it!

Filter replacement its not as easy as an oil filter! One of the brackets needs to be removed, battery to. Atf line is a plug in form one side, and filter has about 1 inch nut on the top of it. It can be done in an hour

I'm definitely gonna look into replacing this filter once I get some free time.

FYI- no need to remove battery. Was able to change the filter with room to spare....

Possible, I did not have my car at front of me when I wrote it, however I had my batt out bc i took out every external valve body and cleaned little mesh screens. Great thing that you have done it! It will definately extend life of your tranny . Besides that, you are an evidence that such filter exists and its servicable, so i guess we can close this subject.

No! Fluid is sucked from differential and pumped directly into, oil cooler/warmer and than transmission. Look into schematics 1. pump 2. filter 3 coler /warmer 4. transmission , thats how it goes. Differential shares oil with tranny! Tatz all folks!

lol OK...that's why it is explained in the 2nd gen TL thread that it only filters fluid going to the diff......

Well, the original problem is still there. In SS mode, sometimes still doesn't wanna go from 2 to 3 unless i tap it forward a couple times. Is there some sort of solenoid or something that can be replaced? What electronics are working with these transmissions?
