xeph--AEM bypass question

are you using the bypass valve on your CAI for the runs that you have been making?? i took mine off today--gotta problem with some humming. newaz, there is a noticeable difference without it, i think, or am i just imagining things????

and about that humming, seems to be getting louder. i took the whole thing apart, tightened everything-still there. set it up as a short ram--even louder. finally just took off the bypass and connected the pcs together with a plumbing connector out of frustration (i was rewarded with more power, i think).

got any ideas??? the hissing when shutting down the car is really load too. should i maybe reset the ECU again--HELP.

The hissing noise is normal for aftermarket intakes. They don't have an resonator.

My Xephyr humms and hisses. I don't have problem with it.

My old integra hissed when i cut the ignition. So i think it's normal.

I'll take the humms and hisses, instead of the soft clicking of the lifters.

I thought that was another benefit of the cai.... additional noise.

I posted an explanation to this a couple of days/weeks ago here: http://www.acura-cl.com/ubb/Forum1/HTML/002239.html

It basically goes into some more detail regarding the Type S and the VSA , humming, hissing, etc.. please review and ask any questions not addressed there

Thanks
Chris

SilverEss,

I was unable to record any minutely significant difference with the bypass valve absent from the assembly. I can not explain why you may feel more power aside from the temperature and humidity of when you tried it ..? In terms of humming, hissing, etc... please refer to http://www.acura-cl.com/ubb/Forum1/HTML/002239.html . Basically, the more free-flowing .... the more hum...

Chris

okay--i'll just consider it a 'cool' sound. it's still quieter than the fan and racket from my neighbors A6. guess the added power is my 'imagination'!! i think i'm gonna keep it off for a while anyways tho.

hey, how do they accurately dyno test a CAI if the car's not moving??? is a fan really going to provide enuff air to simulate driving thru a 'wall' of air moving at 80+ MPH??? i'm thinking we got more power than indicated in the dyno--okay, so don't spoil THAT one for me by giving me facts...i just want you to lie to me a little, heh, heh.

ok, then i won't tell you that the amount of power you engine produces (what the dyno measures) is independent to air resistance
