SERIOUS PROBLEMS!!!! NEED HELP
Ok, I met up w/ a fellow CLS driver last night in so cal. He had AEM CAI and i am BONE ASS STOCK! so we talk for a little bit and decide it is time to see how much faster the AEM CAI makes your car.. i am very interested sense i just ordered one that should be ariving today along w/ my headers. We start, I pull away and finish a car length ahead of him at 65. WTF? we go again and the same thing happens. The only variable i can think of would be the gas. i was at the lst needle(empty) and he said he was at a lil more than half a tank. I need your answers despreatly. b/c i need to know if i am wasting my time w/ headers and intake only to make my car slower. honest answers please!!!!!thanx

the intake will not slow your car down at all.
I can't remember the conversion of how much each gallon of gas converts too, but he did have a lot more gas than you. But that shouldn't affect it that much.
My guess would be that he had the VSA on, and had it in like D5, and that he didn't drive very well, i.e. get a good start, good shifts.
Give us more details, on the race conditions and if you had VSA on, which gear you were racing in, what type of landscape was it, straight, hilly, incline, etc.
That will give us all a better idea...

My VSA was on, his was off. the road conditions were a straight line on pavement. What about restting the ECU(what does that mean) We were about the same weight. I just dont get guys. B/c i really dont feel like wasting 1500 on this when i could do other shit w/ all that money. Does anyone have proof that the intake and headers made a signif. improvement in your cars. any other ?'s list them and i'll answer.

Just be happy, you obviously have a faster car than him. Some cars just come faster from the factory than others. His car was probably from the factory. I have seen as much as a 8-10hp discrepancy from car to car. If his car was bonestock you would have beaten him by even more cars. If you had the cai and he had the cai you would definitely be beating him by even more. Don't worry bout wasting the money. Your car will definitely be even faster with a cai and headers.
A lot also has to do with whether he launched his car well and the condition of his car also.

Are you the same weight? Spare in or out? VSA? Did you pull the fuse on the ECU to reset with the new equipment?

I really dont have a comment on the "slower Batch of cars" dont know how thats possible(but good for me if its true) He said he raced his car all the time, Do the engines loose power and wear that quick, the se cars r brand new. I beat the shit out of my car, I race around town all the F#cking time. Its the only way to drive this car. NEED INFO NOW ON THE INTAKE ONLY!!!!!

First thing to check anytime your car feels slow is the IMRC to make sure that the secondary intake is opening at 4200RPM. If that is not working (like it wasn't on mine and a number of other's cars then you lose 30+lb/ft of torque and the car is noticably slower. When I had my headers and busted IMRC I was even with a stock CLS.

Let me correct and clarify myself. There will be some variances from car to car. Some cars come from the factory a little faster than others. A cai will give you more hp than you have now. That is dyno proven. Ultimately its your choice, do what you will.

the other guy must be REALLY pissed right now.
This thread has made me decide that i am NOT getting any performace mods for my car. I dont really think its worth it to have a little more power. Man I do NOT need to go to 0-60 in less than 6.4 seconds. Nor do i need a faster 1/4 mile. If i do get anything it will be a intake MAYBE next year if i has some spare change.

as far as the difference in cars from the factory look at nascar as an example....
One engine builder can build two engines out of the same identical parts, in a controlled environment, with much tighter specs than a street car will ever see, and one is sometimes alot better than the other. so imagine how much mass produced engines and transmissions could vary.......
what type of gas was the other dude running??? I doubt you actually know, but it could make a difference.
