Would the tranny problems on this car stop you from buying it?

Hey All:

I'm new to the forum. I'm looking at a 2001 CL-S with 145km on it. I'm hearing all sorts of nasty stuff about the transmission failing on this car.

So my question is would the tranny problems stop you from buying this car?

Thanks,

Q

yup. for a CL that doesn't have the transmission covered; i'd look elsewhere.

Depends on how long I plan on keeping the car and if it was covered.

If I could do it again, I would have got an 03 CL-S 6 speed (03 was the only year 6 speed was made) because I plan to keep the car for a long long time.

^ I'm over 92K on my original tranny and still haven't had any issues (knock on wood). I had the band-aid installed @44K, so I think it's all just luck of the draw. But absolutely no warranty coverage = no buy in my eyes.

Wait, does it have 145,000 Miles or 145,000 KM? Your abbreviation of Kilomiles is not standard and a little confusing if that's what you were after.

That's kilometers. Just double checked and it's at 149,000 kilometers. Not miles.

Sorry for the confusion,

I'd pass.. the transmission was the main reason I got a CL-S rather than a TL-S (and this was with <50k miles). Still miss the utility of a 4-door.

i don't have a 2nd gen cl,but i have a 1g 3.0 that i bought with 140k+(3.0's have the glass tranny too). i would def get an acura(just bought 07 tl-s myself)but look elsewhere. i love my 3.0(many mods) but doing a tranny sucks.(i did one) you could prob find another cl (if that's what you really want) with less miles and your covered. with those mile's it's not only the tranny i'd worry about, other little stuff add's up.......

145,000 km = 90,000 mi

It's still covered, if there's nothing else wrong, and it's a good deal, i'd jump all over it.

And BTW - If you have an otherwise great CL and end up having to foot the bill for a tranny, you still have a really great, unique car - it's not the end of the world!
