Woohoo....hit 145 tonight on the way

Well after working 14 hours, I decided to get home in a hurry. After finding the right stretch of road on I-294 I opened her up and low and behold my speedo hit 145. Car felt a little light at that speed, so I backed off.
Haven't been this fast since I hit 160 in my vette last year. Please no flames on the speed the road was pretty clear and I consider myself a "good driver".
Thought I'd share.

hey thunder, nice man. i've been that fast twice in the cls so far. pretty fun i'd say. but you gotta becareful if you know what i mean. i really wonder what our cars will max out at if we take out the governor. hmm...later

Only time I hit 145 was when I was going downhill on rt66 near the 66 and 81 meets in VA. haven't really tried it in a straigt away. And the only reason I try it there is because you can see like 1 1/2 mile down the road for cops. and it then becomes a uphill so my car slows down back to speed. I hit it in 4th in SS. w/out headers, and also tried it w/ headers.

anyone know of any stretches on Long Island where u can feel at relative ease to go as fast as u can without being nailed by the Camaro State Troopers??

I don't such a Utopia exists in the tri-state area. Troopers nabbed some kid last week doing 100 mph @ 7:30am on the LIE in his daddy's Jag. I heard it on the radio. DJ's couldn't believe he could do that during rush hour but then some one called up to confirm. He was on the shoulder!!

i hit around 140 before in longisland newyork.. it was 3 in the morning on the L.I.E between exits 53 to 63...madd fun!!!!!!
i think i even broke 140 but im not sure...the only reason i went so fast is because i had a v1 radar...haha...anyways for all the newyork people do it on the L.I.E between exits 53-73....there usally no cops there around 3 in the morning...

if you take sunrise highway right after patchouge the road dips down and to the left and you can see at least a mile down thats a good streatch. even better is the expressway service rd on the south side between 61 and 62 straight rd for 1 exit never any cops

yo scooter i got f%$#ing nailed by that camaro cop on sunrise highway all the way out by hampton bays he was parked up this dirt hill at a construction sight did't realize it but my rader was going off.(radio was too loud) i couldn't believe it i look to my right and i see his freakin tires spinning down this dirt cliff i was doing 85... i swear to god he was on my ass in 2 secs it seemed like.

I was in SS (4th) and it didn't take long. I backed off at 145, so I don't know what the upper limit is. It sounded sweet with the CAI installed. I noticed that the bogging down at about 110 wasn't as bad with the CAI. Of course, during these high speed runs you have to be prepared for somebody who isn't paying attention to pull in front of you. Gotta be careful, but you only live once.

The CL-S does not have a speed governer.

You're limited by power/aerodynamics.

hey Big,
yeah i know where that area is. unfortunately, i don't have a V1, so i don't really floor it. the top speed i've done to date is 100 on the LIE at like 2 AM in the 50's exits, but very briefly...too scared. maybe i'll buy one in a few months. sorry u got nailed by the Camaro. one of my friends lives out in East Moriches, and his father is the police chief of the town. i believe they got a Camaro over there, so be careful in that area.

Go on the Polaski Skyway before the Holland tunnel. 145 is easy there! NOTE!!! BEFORE THE SKYWAY ON THE TWO LANE STRETCH NOT ON THE SKYWAY!!!!

How is the Infinity self powered sub working out? Was the installation easy? Does it sound good? How much did it cost?

Ash, the subwoofer cost me $350 with installation (I had a local stereo shop do it). I sounds good, but I'll be installing a second one to really feel the bass. I find that for most of my sound needs it works fine. I'm not a big audiophile, so the it's the stock system w/ some help from the subwoofer.

Who ever said the CLS has no speed governer is BSing...

I've had my 3.2CLS for over a year. On numerous occasions in California Highway 5, 880, 85, and 280 I've taken it to 149MPh.

my car is stock except the rims and tires.

I've driver at 149 with my windows down
the car handles the suspention very well
but when you hit 149 there is a cut-off
I can feel the fuel getting cut off every time I hit 149.

As far as gearing goes... on type S... the 4th gear is limited to like 125MPh after that you are on 5th and no other choise. I know this car can handle a lot faster then 149MPh and I think the reason they set that was because the stock tires are V rated for 149MPh.

Well the 3series is limited at 128mph if I remember correctly. But I was confused by the Road and Track write up that did not mention a limiter on the CLS. They showed 147mph in 4th gear at 6100 rpms which tells me ya got some more to go.

Where did they mount that infinity self powered sub? What shop did the work?

I was looking at it a while back, but some people on this board said it didn't have much kick to it. I don't listen to Rap, so the bass that I am looking for is more along the lines of acurate reproduction than industrial noise.

He's totally right, it's like hitting a wall, BAM! fuel cuts off right below 150, because of the V-rated tires.

I'd like to... what's the subject on the thread?

btw... the car is fixed after that accident
but god... now something fell on my front hood and put a big dent in it :-(... I just don't have very good luck with this car

also someone hit me from teh back and scratched my bumper too ... it never ends

the car has been making a funny noise when I just turn it on... I'll have to see if other cars make this too at the meet...

I've got 22k on it now and recently had the tranny fluid changed... it was really really dark. Been trying to take care of it with Penzoil synt 5w30 and ordered an k&n air filter online... should arrive next week I hope.

How can we be limited by aerodynamics??? I thought our coefficient of drag was one of the lowest of production cars...around .29
and not for lack of power...if your M3 is governed at 155...it has more in it. Torque no longer plays a factor...and if the VTEC kicks in 5th...that is 260hp..more than your 240...

you guys need to get a bike for speed. i am learning to ride. here in cali those who are under 20 need to take a class before you get your licence. the definite bike ride that made me want to get a bike was when i hit 130 in about 4-5 seconds. the bike was a 900cc that weighed in about 600 plus the driver, about 140, and me 120.

wow, congrats on gettin her up to the limit just about. last week i got my car up to 135 adn i was lovin life, exceot for the fact my gf was yellin at me that i was driving recklessly. SHe didnt even know how fast i was drivin till last nite.
