Why is my 2001 Cls such a slug??

I just purchased a 2001 Cls auto (36k on clock) and am very dissapointed with the acceleration. A seat of the pants comparo with my old 96 Maxima shows little difference. I also have an Infiniti G35 that could run rings around it so I know what I am talking about.

I test drove an 02 Cls auto a couple of years back and could feels the Vtech kick in at different rpm's. My CL does not have that feel. It kind of feels like it is running with a non CLs motor.

The service dealer suggests a throttle body - injector - manifold flush. With only 36k on the clock though it seems like a waste of money.

I have not checked the air filter but it was supposedly replaced by the dealer before my purchase.

This car can not possible be running more than a 15.5 quarter right now.

Is it unrealistic to expect high 14s from this car??

Only way to find out is to try it out...

Tell us your results. Or you could just dyno it. In my opinion, seat of the pants gauging can be extremely innaccurate.

Why are you posting in Dynograph Gallery for a non-Dynagraph question?

yeah, sounds like its the actuator. its covered under warranty. check the faq to see if yours is working. A lot of dealers are unaware of the problem.

Thats my thread! The symptoms you are having sound exactly like mine when my actuator was broken. I never heard or felt vtec until I got my actuator fixed. Getting it fixed will make such a HUGE diffrence in your acceleration. Be warned though, the dealer will have no idea what your talking about. Its called a Bypass Valve Actuator, make sure its broken first though before you go in talking a bunch of shit.

As soon as I saw the thread title, that's the first thing that popped to my mind.

Check the actuator.

After having the throttle body - fuel injection service I saw my 1/4 mile drop from 15.18 to 15.03. I can now hear the vtec kick in also. The sound reminds me of the 93 Taurus SHO I had years ago.
I have an appointment to have the actuator checked by the dealer this week.

I owned a 96 Maxima before my 01 CL-S, and there's a noticeable difference in acceleration. The Maxima had a hair trigger gas pedal, but perception had a lot to do with its acceleration 'feel'. I tried to pass a 01 TL-S at a green light in my Maxima, and he left me in the dust. The CL-S is a smoother car than the Maxima, and I feel as though the acceleration can't be felt as strongly, but it certainly can be seen.

I have a 95 Max and the CL-s. There haas to be something wrong with your car. There is a noticable difference between the 2 cars. Have your actuator checked.

Did you do a visual check to verify that the actuator is not working? If not, you should do that before you take it to the dealer.

How do you inspect the bypass valve actuator?

You really need to do a search, there is a wealth of information here. Here are a few links:

Your best best is to be informed before you see the dealer.

Hey Zoltan, I've been trying to find that funny ass thread with the weirdo who put the BMW 740 badges on his white accord. Where is it?
