Where do U speed?
and feel safe? I must be paying too much tax, all the local cops seem to have LIDAR now. I reckon my Valentine has maybe a 1 in 10 chance against it. So, I generally only do 75+ when:
1) Going uphill - but slow down for the crest.
2) On a straight stretch if no overpasses for two miles.
3) After I've passed the spot radar jockey's prefer.
4) If I just scouted the area and found no doughnut holes.
How do you do it?

well if i told u, then it wouldn't b a secret anymore
nah, c on Long Island, there are spots u can speed around, but either it's risky cuz u may not know when a cop will show, or the road is narrow and twisty...i've found a couple spots where i've done 125, but i've shut it down b/c i'd run out of room, or i'm scared the cops will b around.

Some others:
1.No on/off ramps within the next mile or so.
2.No trucks in the left lane.
3.Not only doughnut holes but also no "crossable" medians.
4.At least one car out front about 1/4 to 1/2 mile.
5.No tickets/warrants outstanding on my record.
6.Daylight hours mostly.

when I really want to push it there is a road maybe an hour away that has a few turn and hills but is in the middle of nowhere
Other speeding is kind of a grey area. The cops have been out in force recently so I've cut back. there some sretches of divided highway around here that have no on/off ramps for a couple miles I feel realatively safe there.

On Rt 280 in NJ there is a couple of straightaway that I always speed on because there are no places for cops to hide.
Also, anywhere else where I can see for miles ahead with no places to hide.

1) Don't draw attention to yourself - muted car color, no flashy chrome, no huge wing, no constant weaving in and out of lanes. In other words, don't "look" fast.
2) Be courteous - don't piss other drivers off, especially truck drivers as they'll rat you in on their CBs.
3) Never be the lead dog - the V1 can't warn you when others are getting tagged if you're out in front of all of them.
4) Drive faster than the speed that cops patrol. This way they won't be coming up behind you too frequently. 85 or better is good.
5) If you can't do the 85, or better, then watch your mirrors closely as a cop will be gaining on you. Be suspicious of any car that's getting larger in your mirrors. Let them pass while you do the legal limit. If a cop - then you're OK. If not a cop then he's your rabbit and you can just trail him by 1/4 mile.
6) Watch for aircraft and the tell-tale stripes accross the road. My last ticket was in '94 by this method in South Dakota.
7) Don't be greedy. If traffic is dense don't be darting around trying to make time only to get caught in another snarl a couple of hundred feet ahead. Cops look for this type of driver.
8) Avoid the left lane, that's where the speeders are supposed to be. Lidar is often set up to watch just this lane. I've come accross traps where the V1 barked "Lidar" in the left lane while sitting quietly elsewhere.
9) Know what kind of cars cops are driving in each state. The Carolinas use Camaros and even BMWs, for instance.
10) Don't use ANY radar detector in Virginia and DC. There's a new type of detector-detector that will find you. I hope that Mike Valentine will upgrade the V1 in the near future to be undetectable by this device.
11) Slow down and smell the roses. Stop when you're tired. Speed requires you to be alert and attentive. Don't be yakking on the phone or swapping CDs while you're doing 110.
Do my methods work? They work for me. I often drive between Philly and Miami. I've made this 1250 mile run a bunch of times in about 17.5 hours in my 94 and 99 Taurus SHOs (they were both silver). I expect to improve on that with my new Acura as I'll have to make fewer gas stops. I'm doing it in a few weeks. Don't look for me!

Ken, re 'daylight hours mostly': I'm guessing no officer wants to scope his LIDAR at night into your headlights so I think that risk factor goes down at night.

I never speed…….
Actually, I pretty much follow what Ken posted above.
And I agree with the “NOT AT NIGHT” thing.
It’s much easier for cops to get you with INSTANT ON if they’re hiding on the side of the road in the bushes like they LOVE to do in PA & NJ.
Plus we have lots of animal life that tends to stray out onto the Interstates in the dark.
A DEER is not something I want to encounter when I’m tooling along at 100MPH in the dark.

Coming to a city near you
Yeah laser does work at night, I've been hit before with it at 5am coming home from work. But I think the cop missed judged the distance because i was hit 3 times with it. He would shoot, wait, shoot, wait, shoot. But by the first hit I already slammed on my brakes. And what was weird was that I could see a red lense flickering in the dark up ahead of me. Plus I work with cops all the time at work and asked them if it works in the dark and they said yeah it does.
