What is YOUR gas Mileage!?

OK guys
im using premium and 93 octane and all that stuff, i speed here and there but never really any rapid acceleration, but i do have AC on, but you know how many miles im getting to a tank? i mean till the gets down to E and the light goes on although i know that there are still like 4 gallons left in there but the light still goes on and i only get 200 MILES! 200! thats it! my eclipse gave me ATLEAST 300 to a TANK!with like 16 gallon capacity! whys the gas mileage so crappy?

Big engine, heavy car. That's my guess. I get more than 200 though...maybe like 260ish? When I drive on the highway, it goes WAY up though.

bro if gas money is that big of a deal then i dont understand why you would be flooring it even now and then. you should be getting at least 260 even in city (not stand still) if not then you should get it checked out

First off, this is a repost of a repost.

Click for Mileage Thread

With that said....what type of driving are you talking about? City or highway? Obviously you know it makes a difference, but I get about 240 a tank driving a lot of city miles, but I was getting about 430-440 a tank on the highway. If you are getting 200 a tank and doing all highway, then you're having problems. If it's all city, it's still a bit low.

If you like, check your air filter. How many miles are on you car? Pull a spark plug or 2. There are ways to improve your mileage. Do a search.

I saw $3.29 for premium this morning. That would be about $45 for a fill up from when the light comes on. Actually, closer to $46. That's about what I pay too.

That's really not too bad if you consider that you are idling a lot, racing away from stop lights just to get to the next one (I remember what it's like to be 18, or 31 for that matter).

Mileage of car?

Check your air filter and plugs before you add anything.

no actually being 18 and having my eclipse, i remember how much i modded that thing and how many problems i got from abusing it and driving it the way i did, but this one, i dont treat it bad at ALL i never race ( i got to many tickets for speeding) so i dont race to the next light or anything just going around 45 is my regular speed on all roads except those with higher limits.

$2.15....or $3.15. I don't think any gas was $2.15 in the last couple years.

Same here unless I'm driving aggressively. Then it drops like a rock. My best has been around 28-30mpg all highway. My worst has been 12-15mpg.

Same here, but I got up to about 32 mpg when I was modded.

I usually get 24-25 mpg (currently) on mainly suburban driving with 93 octane from hess or sunoco with some shell or chevron because sometimes they get as cheap if not cheaper than the other two. I drive pretty good most of the time with some flooring it here and there through a few gears. But even on a bad week or two of lead footing it, I've never gotten lower than 20. I have 58,8xx miles on the car. I coast to red lights and use some other techniques to achieve these #'s and I usually don't use the A/C.

After I got my icebox installed I started gettin around 22 mpg (before I was getting mid 24 mpg) and I could rarely touch 24 mpg. I did some reading and saw something about resetting the engine computer (please correct me if I'm wrong about this), so I figured hell it cant hurt. What I did was (according to the instructions) 1. disconnect the battery for several minutes 2. reconnect the battery 3. Started the car and let it run until it reached normal temperature. After that I've been getting High 24's to mid 25 mpg.

Performance Mods to the car: comptech icebox and headers.

I bought the car with the headers so I can't say how my mpg would be with out them.

I can tell what the definites are for the highway. I travel make a 350 mile trip every Sunday and Friday. I get 410 miles till the light comes on, that should be about 30MPG, but I have a lot of mountain traveling, I drive fast, and I carry a good amount of luggage. So if your not atleast getting 30MPG on the highway with less weight and average aggressive driving then you need to get the car checked out.

In the city I easily get 19MPG driving fast and hard.

I'm in phoenix and have the a/c on constantly and im getting about 260-280 city miles with A/C on auto to 70. What i did notice is my Hwy miles dont get much better tho like 300/310ish on my last trip to flagstaff.

Cars stock and valves are a lil noisy. I'm at 54k miles and im about to take her in for the 60k checkup and the valve adjustment, i also wanna drop an icebox in see if i can get an extra 5mpg outta her

BTW, its an 03 CL-S 6 Spd

I get about the same in my CL auto. I've noticed it's about 250-280 depending on how many times I gun it to pass someone. I started thinking something was wrong with my car until I did some reading and found this is about normal for city driving. Just about all of my driving is city driving and I always have the AC on.

When I calculate it, it usually comes out to be around 17-19MPG. I've yet to get above 20 though. Surprises me really because I used to have a 2001 Accord V6 and for some reason I remember my mileage being a lot better in that car. I've never had full highway miles on a tank so I don't know.

I get around 520KM on a tank, if i pushed it which i got around 560km. With the AC on its alot less. Didnt realize AC had that much of an impact. I rarely use it now, mainly only when im going to work or when i cannot be a tad sweaty. Typical driving around i leave it off and let the warm air flow through my hair.

People say that having your windows down when driving on the highway causes more drag and wind resistance than fuel used running your air conditioner. I believe it's a push and would rather be comfortable. No way am I going to NOT going to use my A/C to save gas.

I agree! Texas summers can be brutal. I would rather show up to my destination dry instead of sitting in a pool of my own ass sweat! LOL :p As for the drag, it probably varies a bit from car to car but just about all of them get worse mileage at highway speeds with the windows down.

I usually get around 250-350 mpg, depending on how i drive. I have noticed taht i get MUCH better gas mileage while driving in SS all the time (shifting to 5th asap) instead of driving in auto

I get about 340-350 with about 1.5 gallons left when I go for the fill-up. Generally don't floor it but every now and then, I'll take 2nd gear to redline. About 50% highway... but when there is traffic (most days)... its still stop and go.

The best I ever got was 450 miles on 16.5 gallons of gas.. all freeway

I spend about 47 bux average per tank. I achieve 22 in the city(average), and damn near close to 33 on the highway. On a good week I squeeze out about 360 miles to the 14 gallons before the gas light comes on

On road trips I've squeezed 475 miles to 16 gallons...not bad eh? (WOT sometimes)

P.S. I WOT pretty often too. I think it could be the gas you guys use. My car absolutely loves Chevron Techron Supreme! 92 octane.

All I've got is I/H/E, plus over 104,xxx miles.

Well,

ok i have a Type S and i dont us SS much cuz of the fact i used to have stick and drive 80 miles to work one way now all i use is automatic and im ALL CITY, i do have my AC on most of the time, i know like today after i filled up 15.5 gallons my car went about 43 miles and now its on the third small line, its a gas guzzler im figuring it needs a spark plug change or tune up which i can do myself but i need to know all the stuff, i pretty much did ALL the maintenance work on my eclipse 3.0 cept the timing belt. i DID put a bottle of lucas fuel cleaner in there this time lets see the mileage i get now. but man i though this car was goiung to be good on gas but its worse then my eclipse, could be cuz of my tranny maybe not, i do have pretty quick start ups, i mean i shift at 3k rpm in auto, i try not to go over that.

i DONT understand why my cars killing me man. so is there like a how to area on this on repair and maintenance?

It's really inacurate to estimate your mileage by the "small lines." The best is to go to a station, fill up without topping off. Drive it like you normally would and full it up, again not topping it off. Do the math.

Did you list your current mileage?

I just don't see how you people are getting the insane mileage you are. What is "city" driving to you anyway? Just because your town has a Wal-Mart doesn't mean you live in the "city"! hehe Here in Houston, I have still yet to see my mileage above 20MPG. It's usually 17-20. Haven't been on any road trips.

Man so far i have 52miles after i filled up and now ive passed 3 small lines, i should be done with my tank probably at the end of this week but i will tell you every time i fill up it makes me cry! but then again you think this gas related problem is due to my torque converter since my checki engine light is on? OR you think my car needs a tune up? OR heresmy theory> sometimes il drive like 2 or4 miles and the needle goes down like on line, so there are 2 EXPLANATIONS! either my car gives me 2 mpg OR somehow there gas leakin or evaporatin or SOMETHING.

I don't know, those lines are very deceptive, if you look at everytime it will drive you crazy and even though I get pretty good gas mileage it does seem to move down a line everytime I go out, even down the street to my friends house.
