what kind of oil to use?

i'm gonna flush out all my oil cause it's time for a change and i'm running the stuff the factory uses still. What do you guys recommend? Also what kind of cleaners can i use while i'm at it to clean out the engine?

I used Mobil 1... but honestly saw no difference so I'm switching back to 10W 30 whatever the dealer uses oil.

Book says 5W30, but you can use 0W30. I use Mobile 1 Synthetic 5W30 myself. We don't get radical temperature extremes here.

Since you have no cold concerns, I would use the thicker oil. What use do you have for 5 viscosity oil in Southern California right around the corner from all those freakin'warm blooded horses?

That's what I would use. 5 is only good for really cold weather not your winter extremes of 50 degrees *cough*asshole*cough*.

I would recommend the oil that comes in the car. 5W30. You need the 5 for the sub-zero Chicago stuff. 30W acts like molasses at that temperature. I used to change between winter and summer. I used to run 5W30 in winter and 20W50 in the summer. I'm sure that rule no longer applies though. Multi viscosity oils and modern engines are pretty well set at 5W30 now.

My opinion:

Stick to the oil recommended by Acura in your owners manual. Contrary to popular belief, they actually DO have reasons for choosing a specific weight/classification of oil.

I agree with Fender4 all the way go to the site posted in his reply you will be suprise about the information given on oil changes and weights.

I personally use Synthetics 5 or 10w-40 Valvoline and change my oil in my Jetta VR6 every 10K as per VW and 10w-30 Synthetic Blen in my wife's Passat every 5K because of the turbo 1.8 engine.

In my CL-S i will use synthetic once i get the factory oil changed out at 7500 miles.

I do change filters at 5K on my Jetta VR6

I just started using Royal Purple Synthetic 5W30.

I had a problem with oil consumption that the dealer said was "within spec" and would do nothing about. (It was using 1 qt. every 1500 miles.)

So when I was 1 quart low (500 miles ago) I added a quart of the RP in with my regular oil, and it hasn't used a drop of oil since.

What Royal Purple does is revitalize dried gaskets, polish metal surfaces, and clean away (put into suspension) carbon deposits.

I have 1000 miles to go till my next oil change, at which point i'll be switching entirely to the RP.
