It's a PONTIAC.

Just saw on C/D that there are a couple other GM cars that'll share the new platform used in the Solstice... one looks like an SSR with a hardtop...

The one thing I don't like is that it's a manual tranny and it's RWD.
Wait, no, that came out wrong.
The one thing I don't like is the front grille. Where did the bumper go

And don't forget supercharged! At least that's what they were saying two years ago. They were also saying it would be 2.2L, 240hp, DOHC, 6 spd, sitting 19s in the front and 20s in the rear. But its a hot little coupe except for the rear end. I hope they market it like the S2K is marketed - for the enthusiasts. I could easily see it becoming a "chick car". (Not to start that argument again)

Pretty nice, I'd take it over the MRS and Miata.

Those that went to the Detroit Autoshow .... the production Solstice looks very much like the Concept seen in 2001. HOWEVER, there are some tweaks to it ... tires won't be the 19" front/20"rear setup (I think it's a more conservative 18") Some bumper changes to meet gov't crash tests, etc.

Prices start at $20k, but most will opt for the loaded version, which will push the price at $25k. (That's what the Pontiac rep told me when I was there)

Yes -- the Kappa platform (???) is shared with Vauxall and Saturn, to save development costs. They went too technical when they described it in detail. Bottomline: rigid body despite it being a roadster!

- derrick

PS I got a mini-brochure at the autoshow, but I left it at work!

It's the only Pontiac that I'd be interested in. If it undercuts the Miata's performance and price, I think it can be a winner. Especially if they take Chemmech's advice: debadge it!

2.4L 170/170.. Not bad at all for such a small and light car. Most likely a ~220-240 SC version coming out shortly after.

Really awesome car. Looks even better in person

looks like a beefed up miata.

I would pimp it after I put some good mesh in the front grille.

Lotus Elise? Absolutely, but it's almost twice the price as the Solstice!

How does the projected performance compare to a current-gen Miata?
