weird ticking noise

i went to the track last night and did about 5 runs, after my 5 run i noticed my car stared making a ticking noise. it makes this noise only when im pushing the gas, and the faster i go the faster the ticking is.
sounds like it coming from the engien

What could this be

How many miles do you have?

Sounds like its the valves if it increases with speed.

Ticking could be all sorts of things... from valves out of adjustment to rod-knock - has it gotten worse since you first heard it? Also... does it come when the engine is cold, hot... all the time? The car generally makes louder ticking noises with headers just because the SS manifold doesn't suppress noise as well as the cast-iron manifold.

If the car feels very slow... check the coil wire connections

i have 35 000 miles
i did hear a slight ticking noise from the engien b4 but only when i had the hood open and was standing right infront of it but the noise was very minimal. now after my 5th run i started to hear this weird ticking noise(it happened all of a sudden) and it pretty loud( the faster i go the faster the ticking)

BTW my track had problems last nite and therfore the computer was not working

There are some posts here about "ticking" noises (I've got it slightly too) that seem to be more or less normal. If I remember correctly it's some sort of valve (not THE valves). There could be other causes from the valve train and since you have headers -- a small gasket leak will give exactly those symptoms.

check your downpipe for leaks, when there are leaks in the downpipe you get those ticking sounds, maybe those hard shifts and engine moving might of cause a small leak down there.

It could also be a spark plug wire. If it's resting up against a hot piece of metal, and has burned through to the wire, then you will get a ticking sound that increases with speed. Check your wires and make sure they are clearing everything.

The G1 Legend engines were famous for noisy valve lifters, after warm up the ticking noise usually went away. Not sure on the CLS. Check your oil level?

I have this same noise, if i had to compare it to something i would say it sounds like a really really quite diesel engine. The ticking or clicking sound combined with the natural sound of the engine kind of makes it sound like that. I will ask the dealership about it tommarrow, they are fixing all my rattles! (hopefully if they dont convieniantly disappear when i try to recreate the rattles)

my noise happens when the engine is just sitting there or when you push the gas, and like his, the frequency quickens with increased acceleration.

These cars don't have plug wires!

sounds like a rod or valve... same thing happened in my old Z28 after a few hard runs, but it was pretty evident what it was at the time, i thought the rod was gonna blow through the hood!

Check in the following order:

i. Coil wires
ii. Header (or gasket) leak
iii. Valve clearance
iv. Imagination...
v. Valve or rod issues
