wackASS tint job

finally decided to tint my cl. went to the Tint shop in great neck, recommended by a acl member. dropped off the car at 7am...didnt finish til close to 12pm. afterwards, on the way to the mall, my friend notices a chunk of glue between the film and window on the back window(small one). so i had to go back and have them redo that small window. Just when i thought the troubles are over, i notice a few scractches and air bubbles around the breaking light for the back window. once again i had to go back. So this Tues, I woke up at 530am and went there at 6am for them to look at. after 10 min, the guy decides he needs to redo the back window. but he cant do it today. WTF, he made me come in so he can tell me to come back again. luckily, my dad was nice enough to bring the car in the next day. he waited 3 hrs for them to redo the back window. I just checked it out today after work. i noticed an extra flap of film on the top window, a few parts that were not smoothed out. cant wait to see what else is wrong when theres daylight.

knowings all these things, i would have gladly spent over 200 for tints that would be done right. THE TINE SHOP SUCKS BALLS!! FU

this tinting experience has been ...............................

You get what you pay for. Cheap price = cheap tint

$300 - Solarguard - 5% back, 20% sides, 50% windshield. I cant find even a tiny bubble or any dust under the tint. Also, I removed the rear seat & deck so that they didnt have to. The guy knocked off $25 cuz I did that.

Sorry to hear about the problems. I would bitch at them and tell them if they dont fix it 100% this next time you want your money refunded.

I only paid $120 for my 20% all around and I couldn't be happier. No bubbles anywhere with lifetime warranty

Also this guy was so good that he did the rear window without taking out the rear seat and deck! Don't ask me how though. Was in and out in 2 hours.

some tinters have you (or they do it) remove the seats and deck for easier access to the rear window..

I called around to all the reputable tint shops here in metro Detroit and thats the price I got. For a regular tint job it would have been $200, but I had the ENTIRE windshield done, not just a strip at the top. That wasan extra $100 everywhere, mosty because it has to be 110% perfect.

Gotta say ... those of you OUTSIDE of California get away with murder on this tinting stuff .... 50% on the windshield ... sh*t ... they lock us up and throw away the key.
They arent very lenient up here, but I have a legitimate DR's note that I need it, so most cops let it go. Plus, they are too busy pulling over retard kids with limo all the way around in their buzzy ass Civics to care about an "old" guy in a luxury car.

To get the rear deck out (panel with the speaker grilles in the back) you have to remove the rear seats entirely. After you have the rear deck removed you can unscrew the 3rd brake light. I think rear windows look stupid when they cut the tint around the 3rd brake light. Most good tinters can slip the tint in front of the 3rd brake light, but its a PITA. I also have a spoiler with the LED's, so the 3rd brake light wasnt even working. I also did it because I didnt want them to be leaning/kneeling on the rear seats and possibly damage them. Call me anal but I wanna keep the interior looking 100% brand new.

I paid 170, so it wasnt that cheap. I am so annoyed to the point I dont even want to bother going back and waste more of my time. And I hate the fact that they make it seem like Im the one whos at fault here, being too picky n whatnot.

mine cost $200 & they would not touch the front window due to Cali regs. I didn't get the dot matrix tinted on the back so they tinted all except the top - cause they couldn't predict how it would look (the dots). Learned from my Integra that those dots can be nasty. Great job though. No regrets. 55% on the bay windows and back. 35% on the two side windows.

Sunshades has done the most perfect tint job on my car. It's amazing.

Paid 300 for 3M Titanium 35% all around.

I don't know how much that shop charged you, but if it sounds too cheap to be true, then obviously there's something wrong with the picture. Sorry.

By the way, when you first get a car tinted, there will be a few bubbles...they should come out naturally when you leave it parked out in the sunlight!

Tinting in the winter sucks too, the film doesn't adhere as well because of the cold.

Yep, it helps to run the heat a bunch, park in the sun, and use the rear defroster as much as possible. I had a couple large bubbles in mine, so I parked it in the sun and they were gone with a day. I had the tint on my taurus done in middle of december and it looked perfect. Its really up to the installer to do a good job.

paid $160 for my entire tint job.

20% on everything except windshield. Entire windshield has 35%. Never have been pulled over. I've had all the tint on since Oct '03. I guess some of the reasons I don't get pulled over because A) in Maryland, you can renew your inspection stickers instead of going through the whole inspection process over again; B) I work in Va so they can't enforce tint laws on my car since my car is registered in MD; C) I have Fed Govt decals on the outside of my windshield like alot of other govt workers in the area. So, even when they had security checkpoints around the U.S. Capitol building, the police would just wave me through as soon as they saw the official govt decals on the outside of my tinted windshield. I think it's pretty sweet.

If you don't remove the rear deck, they might do something like this to your rear tint:

If you can, try and remove the rear deck so they can get to the 3rd brake light. I asked the guy why he did that and he claimed I wouldn't pass inspection with it being tinted, but since I have a rear spoiler with a brake light, the one in the back is turned off anyways! Not that big of a deal to me, but if I knew ahead of time I would have removed the rear deck and made sure he tinted where the brake light was.

I paid $250 with an additional discount to bring it down to like $220 or so ... 35% all around Formula One Ultimate tint. Formula One tint is Llumar's "top of the line" tint. The installer I used came highly recommended by other TL owners because he was able to tint the dot matrix w/o having any kindof problems. About a year and a half later and the tint is still fine .. no peeling or any problems.

is it really nececessary to remove the dot matrix before the car gets tinted? because i went to this one place and they said they would have to remove the matrix, tint, and then put the matrix over the tint, and thats why they said it would cost me extra cuz of that extra work. It seems that most people on the forums didn't get that done, and they just got tint over the matrix. is that right?

they tinted right over my matrix and any bubbles that occurred can for the most part be pressed down about a day or two after the tints are put on, right now i have little to no bubbling it looks spiffy... also one place ive been to put a black vinly across the top, it looked perfect from the outside and was actually very clean on the inside

I hear the "you get what you pay for" thing. I got my car tinted at a dealership that my buddy works at. It is an independent tinter but it is a BMW dealer so I trusted them It looks great ever after ~3 years. I still have issue with the top of the back window...no pealing but you can tell that it doesn't fill every hole in the factory vinyl stuff. It looks fine even from standing at the trunk. 35% sides, 20% back window. AKA legal in MA.

"You get what you paid for" i paid ~$30 for 17% in the rear and 35% in the front. The tint is solar guard. Thats a reputable name. Wondering why i paid such a low price? I used to tint windows for a few years. No bubbles, peeling, fade etc for 3 years now But the saying "You get what you paid for" is true

You confuse the issue. By "get what you pay for" I was talking about either (and both) quality product and quality work. I paid the real price to get my car tinted the right way...okay, it was $50 cheaper since I had a friend at the dealership but the whole job BEFORE discount was still reasonable. Figure on what someone paying for your time and materials would pay not what you...the tinter pays!

In case that last message came across wrong, I am not slighting your tint job.

I might add that confidence in the job is a HUGE plus (in more ways than one)...it goes with tint, plumbing, carpenters, anything you aren't a pro at...throw money at the problem! I'm a biologist and people have even paid for my artwork as well...but car tint? (or a lot of other things for that matter) No. If I want to mod my car...I trust people like you and others to take care of me.

You can't remove the dot matrix.

It's not just paint, it's part of the glass.

Just tint over it.
