US 41 Raceway times n' stuff...

I met up with Dom this morning and we headed into the cornfileds of NW Indiana for some good ol' drag racin' as the US 41 track. 20 bucks for unlimited runs...

Weather was crappy. Upper 40's, overcast with a light mist... Humidity values close to 100%. Track was DAMP!!!

Anyhoo... This was my first, and I belive Dom's first try at this. I had no idea what to expect.

There was NOBODY there, so I drove right on to the track and lined up. I didn't even get to see how it works. Tree lights up and I go... And spin and spin and spin... No traction what-so ever... So I let off and finally gain traction. A WHOOPING 16.224 and I still won.

It took me a couple runs to get things sort of down... I could never figure out how to launch right repeatedly. Dom and I both seemed to agree it was all luck.

A lot of my runs were in the low 15s with speeds around 92, 92.5mph. Not great. I think Dom was running at least 93mph and sometimes greater. I think he managed a 94.92 in one of his runs. I could never get there... And I could never tell myself to leave on the third yellow light. My R/Ts got better as I did more runs, but I couldn't get below a .700.

My best runs were a 14.867 @ 93.97mph and a 14.789 @ 93.87. I could never crack 94mph...

There were some fast ass cars there. Some tricked out Mustang did a 10.990. Freakin' nuts...

The best was when Dom and I went head-to-head.

Our runs...

I'm going to attibute my slower 1/4 speeds to my car only having 3300 miles on it...

A couple of those runs were damn close between us...

All is all, I had a great time!!!

I'll open this post up to questions and comments.

Nice, just work on those RT's and 60' fts. It didn't help at all that the track was wet either.

14.8 and 14.7 are pretty good considering it's your first time. So what did you do before the run like: tire pressure, how much gas, junk on the trunk, VSA off or on, SS mode or Auto shift, and brake torquing? Also notice your running a AEM cold air, did you ever try taking out the road lamp so the air filter is getting much air as possible?

Yeah... He has a CAI. But he's on stock rubber.

I didn't really think the Pilot A/S grabbed all that well off the line. Maybe it was because of the rubber that seemed to be 4 feet deep at the line. Or the wet conditions??? I would imagine just a tad of moisture would screw things up. Traction was lousy in the first 60ft, hence why our 60ft times were rather poor.

Crazy... Where were you??? I guess Spiroh had a late night, so I guess he had an excuse... . But you and Johnny should have joined us. Next time perhaps...

I'm surpirsed Dom hasn't chimed in yet. I took off before he did, so maybe he beat my 14.789... Yeah right!!! :P

The thing that really sucked is after I got home. Fockin' rubber everywhere. In the wheel wells, on the bottom just behind the splash guards... I wonder if that was my rubber or all the SHIT I picked up from the other monster rides that were there. Tire wear didn't look bad at all for me. I only really spun a couple of times, and I was pretty caring and let off the throttle accordingly.

How bad is it on the tires anyway? Obviously, if you spin a lot, it's not good. But what about minimal spin. It can't be any worse than Chicago stop-and-go traffic, can it???
