who has the moddified map gone to???I mean I know he's sending me a new kit w/ a new P+P harness and a slightly different mapped chip. But I'm wondering if he thinks i'm gonna be getting a dyno to confirm. i'm not getting a dyno...I just don't want anymore misfires/check engine lights...

if uni-chip dont pay for my custom tune i will return it...

and my back up plan is the greddy e-man, dan @ godspeed said if i am not happy with the numbers he comes up with i dont have to keep it.

this was a chassis dyno and numbers were sae corrected, i could of put even more #'s up on a dynojet

Installed UniChip -- Driving Impressions / Problems

Finally installed the UniChip today.. I guess I would have to say I have a combination of all the problems..

First off, throughout my all day driving, at stop signs / lights I had constant sputtering that never went away.. It didn't feel like it was going to stall out, just felt like the car was itching to drive..

Second was consistent CELs... I did not have any CELs going through 1st gear.. 2nd gear I had consistent CELs coming on right around 5300 rpm.. 3rd gear it's consistently around 5800 rpm.. All these CELs are flashing CELs and when I shift to the next gear it will go back off unttil the next point. I'm hitting around 112 in 3rd so I wasn't able to see if I was getting any CELs in 4th..

I'm not sure if these CELs are being thrown when the ECU detects that I'm running lean or what.. I can tell you that the car doesn't tear through VTEC once the CELs are thrown.. It's almost bogged down. Any thoughts ? And who else receives CELs and who has the sputtering problem?

Overall I feel lag at the end of 2nd and 3rd.. But the power below the CEL points is defintley noticeable..

No ant, it didnt go to you, he mentioned "the guy in new york" (you) that is getting a whole new kit and he mentioned another guy who is getting a new chip with an updated map. I think I remember someone in this thread mentioning getting a new map but I dont remember who. Its in this thread somewhere.

You have the exact same case as me except ur may be more severe....the CEL's are misfires. mine happens every once in a while on full thottle and above V-tech. But before V-tech I def feel a nice power gain. You must contact Uni-chip asap and ask them WTF is going on???How come so many of us are having problems???And until then...I would take out the chip for ur engines safety...

We need a Uni-chip recall and a NEW cl-s to get fully custom tuned. AND then all other cl's get that map!!!!!!

Ohh...one morething. I just bought the new Modified Mag magazine. it has a whole section dedicaded to engine tuning and piggybacks and stand alone's. They go over a good amount of the sensors used and what they're primary function is. Then they have a list of the top engine management piggyback and stand alones....E-manage is there but the Uni-chip isn't Anyways...it's worth the read. On the cover is a blue Skyline

Are/were your CELs consistent or random? What did Jack say about your misfires and what to do? I'll be driving with it tomorrow to see if the CELs are still consistent and to see if I can notice anything else.. But then will take it out shortly after.. I'm almost afraid to try and dyno the chip while I have these misfires and sputtering.

Well, I guess it's pretty obvious that the universal chip isn't working to well without a re-mapping. Perhaps you should ask that question of the Uni-chip folks and ask why there are now a number of folks with similar lean problems.

And, as Scalbert (Steve) has pointed out, why go to another chip if you have the option of getting a dyno shop to tune it up for you, or just get your money back?

At least with teh PNP option; it's not as-if you've cut all of the wires to your PCM...

And, it seems that the lean-out problems are "messy enough" to cause some really nasty misfire codes to be tossed.

If some folks with headers, intake, etc where just generally getting a good dyno, the harness could be suspect. But, coupled with the way-too-lean values that are coming up, it looks like its time for a new set of base maps for cars with header, intake, etc.

Let him look over the dynos and A/Fs being shown by members. Maybe you'll get a new map?

IMO, looks like someone hit the lean switch and leaned on it a bit too long... :captainobvious:

I'd want to post that dyno if it were mine. Uni-chip probs or no; IMO, you'd have to be to not want that sucker up here.

I installed the Unichip in my 02 TLS on Saturday. Took it out Sunday for a hard drive and it seemed to pull a little better. No thrown CELs, skipping or sputtering.

I was thinking about doing a before and after dyno to see if there are any real gains.

Darrin...post the damn dyno allready.

Jonesi...my misfires weren't consistent, they were random. They only happened at full throttle and only in V-tech. They still did not happen every WOT appliation...but when it did misfire those were the conditions. Now my cl also fell flat on it's face when in a WOT run too....I thought it was my trans cause I lost complete power and it started surging. All the lights came on and I checked the CEL to be a crank positioning sensor code.

Jack thinks the crank position code was from a bad pin in the P+P harness which might have lost contact for a split second....so he's sending me a new harness. The misfire...I think is because it's too lean so he's also sending me a new chip in which the A/F mixture gets slightly richer but ONLY after v-tech. I've had the chip installed for a little more than a week now and I've misfired 4 times since then....but believe me I've done way more than 4 WOT runs.

Everyone keeps saying that a universal map will not work! Why do we keep blaming that for our problems?

I see no reason why a universal map will not work. Of course, results will vary.

Just about everyone so far has experience lean conditions. If UniChip can correct this, which they can, we should be akay. Let's give them a chance to fix it, because we obviously have a problem.

They told us that we were going to get 10 & 10 across the board. Where is it? They need to fix this!!!

Looks like your A/F ratio is Way off also.. Have you sent these graphs to Jack..? Your torque curve is nice but your HP gain is next to nothing..

I think I'm the only one that likes his chip so far. My car is loving it. My but dyno could be wrong, but I definitly feel a difference. Well all my speculations will be answered at 4pm today when I go for my dyno w/chip. Last week Tuesday I posted a 215hp. So now I'll see what happens.

Seems like alot of confusion at UniChip especially about my situation.. Jacks not sure why I'm having misfires.. He wants me to send it back for the new mapping and see what I get from there.. The worst part is I can't dyno mine b/c of the misfires in 2nd and 3rd gear.. So I'm not even sure what my A/F ratio is. I guess I'll send it back, I would just like some more solid answers about the A/F ratio before anything.. He thinks the cars that already run lean are the ones that are having the higher A/F ratio. It's just weird b/c every person that has dyno'd theres has had a high A/F ratio.. We haven't had any good dyno results yet.. Not sure where to go from here..

my car seems to like it - still no cels, a little paranoid on the lean reports-the a/f ratio
is only changed during wot correct? if i'm bogging it in 3rd (40mph) and accelerate
it will ping (91 oct only avail at the pump) if you down shift it seems to eliminate
any detonation. waiting for louie's dyno and a few review's before i take it in for
dyno or tuning?
