Uneven tire wear ?

Hey guys, I am on CT springs and my inner are wearing which are as expected. But my the middle of my tires are wearing out, and my edges seem to be fine. A shop told me it is prob the shocks, but my ride feels perfectly fine. What could be the problem?

If the center of the tire contact patch is wearing out, but the edges are fine, then the tires are over-pressurized. Lower the PSI in the tires and that'll solve the problem. However, depending on the amount of uneven wear, you might need new tires, as the old ones may not provide enough contact patch area now; you could hydroplane easier, lose grip, etc.

it would help to know what size tires your running on what size rims. While the previous post is the most logical explanation, there could be another as I am experiencing the very same problem, and I don't believe it is caused by too much air.

I had this same thing happen with the 235/45/17 Kumho MX tires I had. Didn't seem to help running lower pressure. I think the tires just expanded in the middle at high speed. Don't think those tires were designed for a lot of highway driving.

If the tire is too wide for the rim the center will wear first. Could be what happened to you.

My fronts are within spec, and my back is off by .1 degree so I do not plan on wasting my money on a camber kit.

10mm wider should not cause center wear. How much pressure have you been running?

I try to keep it about 38ish, but usually when i check my tires, they seem to have dropped to like 33-34.

I have been running 36psi in 235/45/17's, and have the exact same problem ... shoulders look perfect, but tires look like they have been overinflated, which they haven't. That's why I don't think it has anything to do with the shocks, but more to do with the tire/rim combo.

I think we know the answer to your center wear problem.

Why so high? It must ride like a wooden wheeled ox cart. Acura recommends 32 at full load, with just me and sometimes my wife I've found 29-30 is just fine for my '03.

They look like they are over inflated because they are. Add that to 20mm wider on the same width rim and you will get center wear.

The tires can hold up to 51 psi. Anything less that 38 or so, the tires look flat.

Compared to the 60/70/75 series tires seen on most cars, a low aspect ratio tire like these will look flat. A big problem when radials became popular was that because they look "softer" than a bias ply, everyone was pumping them up too hard.

Go by performance, not looks.
