Trunk lid bars

Trunk lid bars
Hello all,
On my 2003 CL, I took out the stock (weak) Bose speakers and installed a good set of 6x9 on the back deck. The problem I have is that they speakers have a bigger magnet and the two bars ( I'm guessing tension bars) that help keep the trunk lid up hit and rub on my speakers!! They also make noise anytime I hit a bump. Also, since I added my spoiler, the trunk lid at times won't stay open, and other times it barely does. Does anyone know how to remove those bars?? To the people that have spoilers on their car, do you have a problem with the trunk lid not staying open, and how did you fix that problem? Lastly, I'm thinking of putting a strut to hold open the trunk lid. Has anyone tried that before? Did it work?? thanks

If I recall correctly, there's a stronger spring (tension bars) that's needed when the rear spoiler is added. I had my spoiler installed by the dealer, so I'm exactly sure.
There's some talk about the springs here (see post 18-20 or so):

For the speaker stuff, you might to check out the audio forum here:

to see if anyone has run into the same issue...

There's a tool you can buy. I ordered 1 myself. I should have it next week sometime.

Does anyone actually have a part # for the HD trunk springs? They were not listed in the parts computers of 2 dealers by me, & I don't see them online.(just the regular ones) I have a feeling they only came with the spoiler kit.

Yeah but the stiffer torsion springs will still have clearance problems with your speakers. Your best bet is to install a set of hydraulics to hold the trunk lid up.

I'm not sure if they are the stiffer ones or not

The special tool might be a little easier and might be worth it if you did a lot of them like at a dealer.
It's not particularly dangerous, I've changed them out without the special tool, just improvised with the handle of a crescent wrench. Worked fine.

when you hit the truck release button, is your trunk lid supposed to fully open? when i got my CL the little square shaped metal bracket that held the bars in place, welded to the upper trunk, was barely holding on so i broke it off, simply by pulling it off. car does have a spoiler but it wasnt original so maybe i need new torsion bars and that bracket back on.
