I am planning on flushing my tranny with some synthetic fluid. Does anyone know how many quarts I need?

When I did mine, I used 10-12 quarts before I got clean fluid.

according to HELMS, it's 3.1 quarts just to change, for a total flush, it's 7.6 quarts. and also, it only recommends using Honda ATF-Z1 fluid.

That's exactly what I used. Amsoil is very good stuff and is Z1 rated. I highly recommend. The tranny will behave much more stable with synthetic in it. Shifts will be more consistent. You won't have the differences in shifts between cold, normal operating temps and after a hard hot run.

Only way it will void warranty is if the fluid was not to the same specs as honda atf or better. Personally I would not use any thing other than Honda ATF

Amsoil Synthetic ATF meets Honda Z-1 specs.

Do you only take your car to the dealer for service too?

Amsoil rates their fluid to meet Honda Z-1 specs. They would have to prove why Amsoil did not meet Z-1 specs in order to void your warranty. Plus, with the trannys having a history of failure, they would not be too successful arguing that their tranny's are reliable when only using factory fluid and that the aftermarket fluid which is rated to meet their spec was the culprit.

If Honda Z-1 was the only thing that would keep your warranty intact, the same principal would apply to brake fluid, motor oil, coolant, windshield washer fluid, etc.

what's that got to do with anything?

I just love people like you who try to be smart...funny that I take my car to dealer for major service and when I have problems with something breaking out of warranty, I usually get some kind of assistance from Honda...... either dealer gives a SUBSTANTIAL DISCOUNT or HOA picks up the tab entirely...for example the alt in my previous car '98 accord died at 99K and it was i paid for labor only.........

Now they do the routine matint on my CL-S and I think it's nice at my point in like to NOT HAVE TO WORK ON MY CAR
