Tranny shifting down when slowing down?
Does our trannys shift down when slowing down? I noticed watching the rpms they they jump up and gown down while slowing down, and the feel of the car feels like its shifting down softly while slowing to a stop. Is this right? I have driven other autos, chrysler, gm they never did it. I think my older Maxima did this, but it was hard to tell. Just wanted to find out.
Our car besides the normal way an automatic reacts to slowing, will down shift if it senses it is going downhill and you are applying the brake, to aid in slowing you without excessive brake wear.

Honda and Acura cars have what is called Grade Logic. What this will do is stop the car from hunting for gears going up hills and it will monitor brake pressure when slowing down and down shift when needed. Most domestic cars do not have this technology. I hope this helped!!

this is exactly the reason i use SS exclusivley now. for the most part the car will not downshift on its own.

Wow, not bad idea I guess. Wouldn't you think that would put extra strain on the trannies though? heheheh. Could be a reason why they are going out, due to them shifting down all the time. I dunno, just a guess. But that is interesting to know. Thanks.

Actually this “Grade Logic” is one of my biggest complaints about the Slush-Box.
There are hills by my house that I have to literally accelerate DOWN because the damn car is actually holding me back.
Grade Logic is great for going UP hills to keep the Tranny from shifting all the time, but if I want to go slower going DOWN a hill, I will select a lower gear myself thank you.
