Probably very dependent upon where you trade it in...Acura/non-Acura dealer, friendliness/professionalism of the dealer, region of the country, etc.
I am kind of curious myself since kbb.com estimates the value of my '03 having dropped by about $1k over the past month. According to them, the G35C that I was considering is worth $5-6k more than the CL-S.

i've gotten different info from kbb.com, nadaguides.com and from edmunds.com
that's why i'm asking. i'm looking at trading in my baby for a more economical used civic so i can more easily afford grad-school.

PM F900 for the "black book value" or better yet, PM him and ask him to post in this thread (send him a link to this thread).
I've got a big range there, 'cause the final number on trade will largely depend on the car your are trading it in on....
My 03 6spd w/ 50050 miles is probably worth (maybe) 15K in trade.... Of course the final figure will depend on how much under MSRP (or over invoice) on the new car...
Dealers can and will play with trade in numbers.... Some people get a terriffic trade in value, but the new car is at MSRP, some get shitty trade in value but get the new car at invoice... What everyone should try to do is maximize trade in value and minimize new car purchase price
My dad used to say it was best to negoicate the new car price first and then mention the trade in, but I don't think it really matters...
Get an idea of what the car is worth first (via kbb, nada, edmunds, and galves). Get invoice pricing for the new car. Figure out the difference. Tell the dealer that's what you're will to spend.
Example: 10K trade in, 20K new car invoice, so the magic number is 10K...
Goto the dealer, haggle on new car price, haggle on trade in, and then drop the bomb. Tell 'em that you don't care how they work the four square (google "four square dealer" for more info), but you are only willing to come up with 10K (remember, this is our magic number) out of pocket to make the deal happen...
They could give you 15K for your 10K trade in and charge you 25K for a car w/ a invoice of 20K and the magic number is still the same... 10K...
Now, you either have to walk out, or have the dealer throw you out, if you can't come to terms, but let them stew... they took your phone number down soon after you walked in the door (or during/after the test drive), so they'll call you in a week. They won't call after 2days 'cause they don't want to seem too "hungry"... I looked at Accords when I bought my CL, and the honda salesman was calling me for months afterwards... I finally returned his call to tell him that I bought the ack months ago, and to leave me alone
You can also think about adding (or subtracting) a fudge factor, and changing the number magic number to your benifit or the dealers benefit... In this example maybe start off with 9K difference, but be willing to goto 11K out of pocket (a fudge factor of 1K)...
This concludes GM's car buying tips for the day....

hmm, i've heard that carmax gives better pricing for straight sales... anyone else?
btw: thanks GreenMonster for the info... i'm not moving up the food chain in the next car... going backwards; gonna pick up a used civic to save on gas, pmt, insurance, etc. i've got a number in my head that i want/need to be able to feel good about the deal and not pull too much out of my savings. my s/o works for auto nation and i'll be getting the discount so my suspicion is that if i do go thru an auto nation dealership, they'll not want to give me too much on my trade since they're not gonna make too much on the deal anyway...

I have an '01 CLS w/62K mi and NAV. I went in to the dealer here in NoCal to inquire just recently about the new TL TYPE S that may be coming out this fall and asked what the sales manager would give me for my '01. He said no more than $11.5.
Better to sell it on the open market if you can deal with the idiots out there. I know someone who sold his '02 for $14.5 - same everything as mine with $55k mi.

Yep, private sale is the way to go...
Here's an example of a low mileage 01 w/ 36K miles selling for $16.5K... Most of the 01's I've seen for sale are in the lower teens...

03 6spds with 70-80K miles are going for that price....
