top end

Does anyone know the top speed of the 03 cl type S with 6 spd. I'm guessing it has to be at least 150 and probably closer to 160, since last night I was on a stretch of I-635 in Dallas about 2:30 am and decided to hit it. I got up to 140 or so when I had to shut it down due to me running up on some traffic, but it was still pulling strong as hell in 5th gear at 140, so im thinking at least 155 or so. Any info will be greatly appreciated.

a little bird told me there is no limiter, just aerodynamics. but that just seems silly.

If guys with stock motors are hitting 150mph, the guys with more HP would be seeing quite a bit more top speed if it were purely aerodynamics.

i don't know how many people are actually trying to hit top speed. i wouldn't attempt it in stock form. or even lightly modded. 150 without a tight suspension is dangerous.

if it were dangerous, why would they set the limiter at 149?

like i said, someone once said there is no official limiter. is there really a fuel cut? can anyone confirm they pegged the needle? the reason these exotic cars can get so fast comes down to aerodynamic forces.

it is limited to 149. do a search this has been brought up a million times. i have a 6mt and it is limited. it is crazy to go that fast off a track/closed course, be careful. if there were no limit the car would go faster. it will pull hard until you bang on the limiter. you will know you are there. DANGEROUS!!!

the limiter is set at 149 because the tires the car was sold with have a speed rating of 150 max. DO A SEARCH

No offense, but all of you idiots driving 150MPH on the highway should spend $10 and just take your cars to the track before you kill someone.

Go to this link if you need to drive that fast.

http://www.silverstateclassic.com/

Many dont know about this race. It is in Nevada and you can go as fast as you want for 98 miles on a fresh paved public road in any car with z-rated tires twice a year. the record was set with a NASCAR last year with an AVERAGE speed of 227mph. there are different classes. I think a few people have been killed. It is about $500 to do it and you get racing school, and a real racing licence. It is a three day event.

I am not going to sit here and tell you I havent broken the law in my car. That would be crap! but while you may think you can control your car at those speeds, and you may be able to provided nothing mechanical fails, you have absolutly no control over the dumb shit next to you, or anywhere else for that matter! YOU HIT ANYTHING AT THOSE SPEEDS, even soething that shouldnt be there like a deer, road debri etc.. you are fuXXing toast. Paramedics have a nickname for people who die this way. It happens quite frequently.

I've only gotten it up to 120 something on the highway

I don't trust the CL's brakes enough to take it out to Limerock or Watkins Glen either

With hardly any cars (besides the 50+ cars going as fast as I was) on back roads in Austin. I got to 130ish. DONT DO IT!! I have pampered my car since I got it and as of this week I need to replace my: 1) Power Steering Pump 2)timing belt 3)cv axles 4)rear main seal

These arent cheap replacements.

I've hit 120 a few times (3:00 AM, deserted freeway), and the car feels rock solid, like any other car feels at 70 or so. But I know from past experience (mostly with bikes) that this is a false sense of security, and you have to avoid tunnel vision. Things can happen very fast, faster than you can react.

I can't imagine taking it up to 150, other than on a track. At those speeds, very few errors are recoverable, especially in a boat like the CL!

No offense but you should grow up and take your ignorance somewhere els, no track is $10 and I am pretty sure no one here is doing this in traffic, most are only endangering themselves

Drive safe and be Smart guys.

A)130 in & out of traffic = idiocy B) 130 with very, very few cars on the road = still stupid. I think if you completely know your vehicle and dont drive it CRAZY (weaving and not slowing for traffic) you are ok. Still VERY dangerous, DONT DO IT.Driving fast and driving within the limits of your car are 2 different things

BTW,Texas Motorplex in Ennis (1/4) is like $10-$15 every Friday night in the summers for as many times as you want to run and Kennedale Speedway (1/8) is, I think, $8 Thurs, Fri and some Saturdays (Info for you Texans)

I need to grow up because I threw out a figure, but driving 150MPH on the highway is a mature, non-ignorant thing to do?

Please. I ran www.club3g.com for five years, including the time that The Fast And The Furious first hit the theaters. Within 2-3 months we had TONS of posts flooding in from young kids thinking that just because it's late at night it's A-OK to drive that fast. Know what the second busiest forum was? Wrecked cars.
